Some individual states have certainly leaned more towards socialist policies than others, and some of these bleed up to the federal level to be used nationwide (the push for reigning in the medical fields with the ACA is weak, but it's a step towards heavier regulation/takeover which will be necessary sooner rather than later). Obama and the dems in the power have obviously run into issues pushing some things forward, but Obama has gotten a surprising amount done thus far, despite those setbacks. Sanders would be in for a hell of a fight from not just the Republicans but some democrats (I think he'd find a few Republican friends come out of the woodwork, too); from what I understand there's a fair amount of center-ish Dems from southern/midwestern states that wouldn't support everything Sanders suggested. Hell, there's a lot of people in general that wouldn't buy everything he's selling (myself included, and I'm a supporter of him). But have a very-left president would sway the country more that direction, which is a good thing. But yeah, there's a LOT of Republicans that will just be cunts to any democrat in the limelight; those same Rs would also take a cheap shot at any other party-member they thought they could get away with. It's pretty wild on that side of the aisle right now. A year ago I honestly thought the Republicans had the next presidency on lock down after how left Obama has pushed and how sneaky the Rs have been with their tactics and manipulations, but they lost hold of it all and now it's just a broken aquarium spilling all the stinking fish out to the floor to flop and gasp for anyone to save them. Unless the Republican elites (re: not actual Republican politicians, but the moneybags in the background) have some big tricks up their sleeves (they've got plenty of shit to throw at Clinton, at least) they're going to lose the presidency. may be rude
bernie wants to address the income inequality and money in politics which are two of the major and fundamental problems. probably 3 supreme court judges will be chosen by the next president and bernie said he will only select those who will overturn citizens united. the republicans are so bought and paid for by big oil that they're allowing the climate to be destabilized. this may go down as the most wreckless act of man in history. people will try to talk shit about socialism but social security is socialist and that's a resounding success. same for medicare and medicaid. the 2 car garage golden age of america was helped along by a 90% tax on the rich. capitalism isnt magic, wealth inequality is accelerating at an alarming rate. 62 people have as much wealth as half the world's population, and that's down from 300 people a couple years ago. when you're rich you pay people to turn your money into more money. there is only so much value in the world and its gravitating upward. obama has been walking on egg shells for numerous reasons but bernie doesnt give a fuck, he will humiliate the republicans, call them out and not let them get away with their shit he also might bring enough people out to the voting booths to reduce the amount of republicans in congress! as much as i like to let them make fools of themselves to hasten their complete destruction, it would be nice to not have their gerrymandered majority Edited February 9, 2016 by very honest Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/92517-now-that-trumps-president-not-any-more/page/7/#findComment-2417759 Share on other sites

ambermonk
Something tells me Sanders' campaign is a direct response to the economic dive in fall 2008, and the subsequent OWS movement three years later. I'll bet he observed quietly and planned while it all unfolded. If it weren't for today's social media (FB in particular), the odds probably wouldn't have been as much in his favor as they are now. Well the cultural aspect has been brewing for some time. And Sanders has had front row seats for a big chunk of that timeline. You could argue it goes back to discontent with the Reagan administration and even further. But, yeah, social media is definitely a big catalyst to the exposure and financing that made his campaign possible.
