Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

Recommended Posts

I actually just last night had a conversation about the Twin Peaks-y vibe of this year’s election media circus. Like, on the surface it’s just a numbing, sensational wash of loudmouthed name-brand pundits & politicos running their show biz as usual, but below the hyperbolic, over-emoted “journalistic” melodrama lurks a very real, if shapeless, inescapable evil. The result being that same TP sleep paralysis effect, where you’re hypnotized by the alien words & glowing eyes of the approaching predator, & your own inaction soon becomes the scariest part of the whole spidery mess.

I just walked by a tv in the airport with cnn on it and saw something about someone in the Trump camp who posted a drawing of Hillary with a black face. I have no idea what's going.

^^ that's part of your daily "trump related news that would never fly if anyone else said it but will soon come to pass thanks to people not giving a shit". of course, the guy that posted it regrets it and already, we've moved on. can't wait for tomorrow's soon-to-be forgotten outrage though.

Republicans can't actually think they've done (or even said) a single thing that should earn them the back vote though.

here's a recent maddow piece on polling related to trump and black people that's pretty funny

black people already do not trust white leaders. they are not going to vote for a jackass like trump.

It's amusing that he even thinks he has a chance.

We can thank minorities for being intelligent enough to save the  country  world this election

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

When I was in Raleigh, NC I actually spoke to a few individuals that voted for Trump in the primary. These were coworkers that I got along with and went out drinking with. It was like discovering your friend has been bitten by a zombie and has no hope.

The values that Trump panders to are not fringe values, unfortunately. These 'traditional' (read: white) ideas are not held merely by the odd redneck here or there. It runs all through this country, although slightly under the surface.

I took a cab a few days ago and the dude was listening to Rush Limbaugh. It's the Bud Light and Patriots and spend-the-weekend-working-on-your-car types, and they are fucking everywhere.

There's a really good article about that, and why the party should implode. Their misstep was the Goldwater run in 1964. He wasn't racist or right wing John Birch Society nut (which made him a viable candidate to the more moderate Rockefeller Republicans) but he was very libertarian and opposed the Civil Rights Act on constitutionalism grounds. So when he went against LBJ, who was a liberal Democrat, the GOP bet on this stance to woo the pro-segregationist South, who in 1964 were still card carrying Democrats. It didn't work, LBJ won every state except Arizona and the Deep South, and in the process they essentially shifted every segregationist to either the GOP or 3rd parties.

The GOP has never embraced this silent core of closet racist white voters being a block of theirs but they've creeped out with Trump running. The GOP was the party of Lincoln but lost their hold on black voters after the Depression and FDR's presidency. It went from 30% to 6% after 1964. I actually don't disagree that the Dems take advantage of blacks in some ways, corruption and pandering is heavy in urban areas and it plagues many Democratic strongholds BUT the GOP in it's economic anti-government policies, especially with the Tea Party ethos of late, doesn't even try to reach out to minorities and African-Americans. It's also turned off a lot of moderate and conservative Hispanics who used to vote GOP. Catholics are even favoring Clinton 26 points more because Trump has disparaged the Pope and been so anti-empathetic...very unlike Bush who was self-described as a "compassionate conservative"

The entire clip is refreshing honest take on the country's broken politics today, too bad its a movie from 1998.

That is a great movie, although it looks (at first glance) like a terrible movie...like, if someone said "hey, you should watch that flick about Warren Beaty as a rapping politician" I would probably not watch it

there should be prolonged protests for climate legislation. waiting for the corrupt to not be corrupt is really not an option on this. we need legislation.

cenk hits the right points there, the trends are alarming, corrupt politicians paid by oil interests are the obstacle, and the real danger is the martial-socio-political fallout of destabilized climates, which right now looks likely to undo modern civilization as we know it.

50 years from now if this is still an issue, that's beyond fucked. we can't even act like they have 50 years to get this together, that's way too long.
