It's their most meh album. i hope, if they do make another album, that at least its not in that vein

I know it comes down to personal taste but to me it felt like a really weak album. Kinda corny somehow

that bleak themeing is just not my thing i guess.

As they are my favorite artists of all time, and in my 40s it’s hard to see someone topping them, OF COURSE I want more material, and OF COURSE I’m going to come to a website build specifically for musical styles and artists like them to talk about it. It’s interesting to see people thinking boc fans (twoism, on the extreme end) are being desperate and fanatical when you pop into the autechre subforum and people are constantly being like “omg I’m cumming out of my ears! Also my eyes!” when they hear new material.

there should be a place here for fans of all types, and definitely fans of a group who haven’t released new material in a while but have made no indication they are done.

I don't really want another thing from them. TH was so disappointing (after eight years waiting), all they could manage was the same old tropes with some John Carpenter and Mark Isham thrown in for good measure. Old Wine In New Bottles.

You can make your own closure, it's just a mindset.

speculation: boards of canada and portishead are in a studio working together on their next concept-album which will be about cornflakes and candy on a summers morning on the edge of the universe in a castle high up in the sky

isn't it obvious that next album will be unlocked when the societas X tape track list is completed!?

I wonder if there is a point in once musical career where you think it’s better to not create anymore music. Like if you become aware that even if you put out an amazing release the times have changed and you will never reach the heights of a past release, even worse it might ruin your reputation or lead to diminished incomes from past releases. Would you still release it and if yes why? What happens then? You sit on a pile of really great tracks till the end of your life? Are you selling your studio as well?

You know when you kind of need to do a big shit on a long bus journey, and you hold it in fairly comfortably but when you get to your destination and get off the bus all of a sudden things get tricky. And when someone tells you that the nearest public shit house is at the pub just around the corner. And as you approach the corner, things start getting painful and quite desperate. And then you crash through the front door and shout under your breath at the barman where the toilet is because you are almost about to shit yourself. But you get there and you start unloading your bowels as you rip your trousers and pants down. But in the end everything works out fine. That's where we are RIGHT NOW.

imagine the freedom of being able to live your life however you want, spending time with your friends and fam, playing in the studio, doing whatever. and not having to give a fuck about releasing records.

sounds well lush to me

I don't know man. Knowing how much music has helped me through stuff when I needed it the most makes me think I would want to at least aknowledge and appreciate that connection being a thing with my fans. AFX started the soundcloud dump right after my best friend killed himself and having a new track to listen to every day was such a godsend. I remember sitting outside a club in Zurich feeling a little blue and suddenly getting a user18etc notification on my phone and it just helped a lot. Don't wanna be a downer with this either I just think it's a great quality of art that is unique to music because we use music as an almost background track to lift us up or maybe even sway us into a new direction we have a hard time going into. But the rest is literally *the dream* that I will not stop chasing until I either have it or bite the dust

right but BOC have already released a robust catalog over many years of absolutely beautiful music of the highest calibre. we're already blessed.

i think there's a difficult notion of MORE about a lot of the discussion itt that i don't always understand. of course, i'd like more from the brothers but i don't really think they owe us anything at all.

but perhaps i'm just saying this in case they see this and think i'm cool and i get them and then they reach out to me to privately share unreleased albums...

Most successful artists just create because it's in them and they need/want/like to get it out, no?  Whether or not they share it with anyone is obviously up to them.  Are they even still making music??

I remember reading some story about Prince that his assistant or someone was telling about how one night at like 3 am or something he walked into the studio and spent a few hours making this beautiful love song, playing all the parts and such, then when it was done and recorded he just hits delete on the board. he just needed to get it out.

Not saying that boc= Prince but maybe that's what they've been doing, just putting everything in the bin because who gives a fuck.
