Elon Musk is now trying to create tension and de-stabilization in UK politics

i'm just really disappointed and scared to think that Elon is basically sitting there posting inflammatory tweets with a smirk on his face, acting like a casual troll who is in fact creating serious and far-reaching problems for the UK government. our prime minister had to stand up at a press conference yesterday to stick up for himself because Elon is, essentially, accusing the PM of defending rapists and pedofiles and broadcasting it to 211 million people.

i wasn't even aware of this until i watched it on the evening news on TV. i never usually get involved or pay attention to politics but this has me worried, even as a UK resident i have to worry about this stuff, it's happening digitally and globally and it affects everyone. bad times.

I remember the days when he wasn't in the news every day.

The guardian currently has two front-page articiles up about Musk, I thought this one was quite good

Elon Musk’s rage-fests on X make it clear that he wants something. I think I know what it is

  Quote

What remains strange about Musk is the wolfish enjoyment he appears to derive from these kinds of skirmishes. This is the standard attitude of the troll, but there is something else going on here that has nothing to do with the topic at hand and everything to do with Musk’s David Brent-like ambition to be perceived not just as a tech genius but, at root, as an entertainer.

superficial puff piece imo. everyone scrambling to have some kind of deep insight into musk. he's not an entertainer lol come on. also the premise here is that he should stick to what he's good at aka "conquering mars?" lol

funny that this particular op-ed doesn't remember that elon musk famously called that guy who was part of the rescue of all those kids a pedophile.

he's an asshole. we don't need anymore "well actually" theories about him. the press love to think up ways to explain that the rich and powerful are deserving and superior, otherwise it would mean that the system is bullshit. but alas, it's bullshit. in fact, power benefits immensely by having cretins like this in its upper ranks bc it conveys power's inevitability. foucault wrote about this in his Abnormal lectures, feels like it applies to western elites more than ever:

I do not think that explicitly showing power to be abject, despicable, Ubu-esque or simply ridiculous is a way of limiting its effects and of magically dethroning the person to whom one gives the crown. Rather, it seems to me to be a way of giving a striking form of expression to the unavoidability, the inevitability of power, which can function in its full rigor and at the extreme point of its rationality even when in the hands of someone who is effectively discredited.

apparently elon rolling a joint in a big onesie.

Not sure you read the same article as me. It was comparing him to David Brent

you didn't do a good job of reading it.

i suspect the overriding thoughts about the future past will be why n one did anything about climate change and wealth consolidation. everything else will be a minor footnote.
