Well I was going to mention Sgt Pepper, but I've already been told off and had a few huge chunks taken out of me by Mdm Chaos, having a similar styled belligerent rant about the Fab Fours masterpiece will just ask for more trouble (maybe Dr Lopez)....

I guess I need a time machine to fully appreciate how important it was. My feeling it's more about the sound, production and concept of the album. The songs are lame compared to Revolver and Magical Mystery Tour (I'll stop there)…..

Within You Without You is the only meh song on Sgt Pepper's. Every other song is great.

Lol, that's my favourite track on the whole album by a country mile!

It's the only song on there written by George Harrison rather than Lennon/McCartney, so you're both consistent with your taste.

Stephen G, you will probably hate it.  It's kind of the OPN of Beatles albums.

I usually really like George's Beatles stuff. Love You To is one of the best tracks on Revolver imo, really gets me pumped up; but Within You Without You is just kinda...there. it's not bad, (very few Beatles songs do I consider out and out bad tbh) it's just below the standard of quality of the songs around it.

Oh, but I like the Beatles, somewhat anyways. At least what I've heard.

I think this is literally one of the worst shows to ever end up on TV.

The following it has is mind boggling.

Dark Side of the Moon is excellent.

The Wall has a handful of great songs but is mostly filler.

this, it's incredible how I've never gotten sick of it despite it being such a FM staple

also Meddle and Wish You Were Here are better albums

Making playlists

i get it, when it's like by genre and wtfs... no purpose...

but i usually find them quite handy, like for instance, level 42 instrumentals only, favorite zappa trax from 1850 songs in total, senegal folklore songs which are more leaning towards mbalax than to heavily latin influenced...

Family Guy

Oh god, good one.

Once, in college, I was very high at a friend's house and that show was on. I chuckled at one joke and shocked myself that I was laughing at Family Guy. I was relieved when I realized I was just really high.

Black Dynamite is ten times better to get high to. I dunno, I just think Family Guy is overrated af. It's like somebody decided to make a Simpsons ripoff and design it to match the pop culture humor palate, and cash in on it that way, if that makes sense. You might have a better way of explaining it.

At least Matt Groenig was creative and imaginative, like he wasn't afraid of expressing the darker undertones of our world in his satire.

Family guy broke out because of the edgy humor and often funny cutaway gags, especially in the early years. I will readily admit there have been times where I laughed my ass off at some non-sequitur, non-plot driven joke. Like this one:

Classic era Simpsons had similar bits but far less frequently and with far more subtle segues. Family Guy became so dependent on this novelty (this was pre-YT, pre-Vine, even before College Humor skits) that it became a joke among writers of more nuanced and complex animated satire and comedy shows like South Park and KOTH.

Family Guy's godawful mediocrity and lack of depth has always been it's character, or lack thereof. Peter is jerkass era homer on speed. Homer was an endearing and sincere boob, Al Bundy was cynical and aloof but not mean-spirited. Peter is a fucking worthless fat asshole. Meg is underdeveloped as a character, Louis and Chris are one-dimensional. Ironically the more interesting characters started off as side jokes (in many cases exaggerated stereotypes and token minorities) and minor supporting roles. I could easily watch just the Stewie and Brian episodes.

the film?

yes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's an odd film. Great movie (truly timeless cinematography, some of Vilmos Zsigmond's shots are incredible) but, and I say this as a Vietnam war film fan, it's never been in my top 3. It's a hard watch, emotionally exhausting and long. Beyond the story itself there's also the fact that John Cazale was dying of cancer as they filmed. He never saw the final cut.

It dawned on me that it's one of the last epic films made - it's got the same scope as Ben-Hur or Dr. Zhivago where you have an unbelievable amount of plausible and valid historical events and vignettes all crammed unrealistically in the the lives of one protagonist and on a handful of people in their social circle. Really more of a tragic American drama than a war film. I've still only seen it once.

^ lmao @ that South Park bit. That summed up the Family Guy formula perfectly. Hell, South Park had no shortage of shock value either, but even its writing and satire is far better executed.

But yeah, that's what bothers me about Family Guy - just its overall lack of depth and its try-hard humor. And your comparison between Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson is spot on.
