feature request: mastodon embeds

edit: i guess some instances offer an "embed" feature that provides html embed code. guessing there's not a place i could enter that?

Unless Mastodon supports the Oembed format/protocol, we cannot support that.

Downloads in the download section seem seem to be broken. For example if I try to download:

 all i get is a 0 kilobyte mp3. Anyone else have the same issue?

Just tried a few, most (but not all) indeed don't work and just fetch an empty file.

Got a new phone, same formatting problem... Anyway...

Can't seem to find an endppoint URL to set it up and doesn't work with iFramely either...

idk nothing about web building/sharing/etc. i’m a computer dummy for the most part. i only linked that before because i Googled it and seemed like a good starting place for the searching….lots of people doing dev stuff with Masto & the larger Fediverse protocols rn tho so i imagine there's somebody explaining how to somewhere.

would be cool to have Mastodon embeds if possible tho!

Yeah, I guess what I should say is there is probably a way to do the embeds... but unless the forum software or an add-in provides that functionality (for example, we have an add-in that extends the forum's native oEmbed rich media embeds, and we did a special button for Bandcamp since this is a music forum), I don't really have the time or resources to do heavy programming like I used to.

I've seen users offering their time to help you with that...

this is strange, i copy/pasted a Facebook video link and it occupies the space of the video in the post and even gives me the option to use it embedded or as a link... look...

once again I have no clue what I'm talking about but what about using ChatGPT 4 to give you a hand?
