This just in, Canada admits to kidnapping and hostage-taking for China not following the rules of US economic warfare

They put some dudes who were probably criminals anyway even if technically, in comparison to all the people the US and Canada put in jail who are working class and don't get this recognition

Dude, you have no idea how DPAs work, and you can slander my friend all you like but China essentially turned around and said “We took these guys hostage, and now that one of our leading capitalists is free, we’ll let them go.”

Hong Kong cinema is now dead. They killed it. UGH.

two totally not spies welcomed home by CSIS

"hey bro, you work in some really interesting areas in China, why don't you send us bi-yearly updates on anything unusual you've observed in the area and we'll send you funds to help make sure you're provided for?  what? of course not!  I'm not affiliated with the government at all, I just work for an NGO"

please tell me you are forming your opinion that they are spies based off of something other than that tweet. or that article that offers pure speculation based off a 3 word tweet. I never saw China offer up any concrete proof they were. yeah I get with "spies" we may never know the truth from either side. but sure as hell looks to most people that it was a clear cut case of retaliation for Canada detaining Meng.

it very well may be retaliation, as in deciding to no longer let them hang around to observe them, a recent discovery they decided to take action on, or a host of other factors

Why exclude the second part: "CSIS joins all Canadians in welcoming you back to Canada."

Oh right, doesn't fit your narrative.

Meng basically admitted to doing the act she was charged of by agreeing to the DPA.

Under the terms of the DPA, Meng has agreed to the accuracy of a four-page statement of facts that details the knowingly false statements she made to Financial Institution 1. Meng also has agreed not to commit other federal, state or local crimes. If Meng breaches the agreement, she will be subject to prosecution of all the charges against her in the third superseding indictment filed in this case.

What about Chinese capitalists? Meng cared enough to lie about Huawei's relationship with Skycom to avoid sanctions. This is laid out in the statement of facts, which is part of the DPA that Meng signed (thus agreeing to the accuracy of those facts).

you're acting as if something bad happened when it's really just violations of standards unilaterally imposed by the US that nobody else even should care about.  you're acting as if US sanctions have any basis in reality or ethics. i don't care if she lied, she's based for doing it

Wrong: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctions_against_Iran#UN_sanctions_against_Iran

Look - Huawei sought funding from US financial institutions, or financial institutions that wanted to continue to operate in the US. They lied in order to do so. If they didn't want funding from those financial institutions, they should have looked elsewhere.

It makes sense you're ok with her lying, you're fine with lies told by the CCP and Xi Jinping all the time.

Goldman Flags $8.2 Trillion Threat Worse Than China Evergrande

The real worry concerning the China Evergrandedefault drama is the inevitable where-there’s-smoke-there’s-fire paranoia that accompanies debt stumbles.

The most worrisome such blaze, say analysts at Goldman Sachs, is surging local government debt levels that President Xi Jinping’s men have done their best to hide. The default troubles at the globe’s most indebted property development seem like small embers compared to the $8.2 trillion worth of local government financing vehicles outstanding.

And that’s just the LGFVs we know of [...]

Pyongyang unveiled the missile in January, describing it as "the world's most powerful weapon".

Missiles have been very 'in' over 2021. Biden's budget for the DoD is flat when adjusted for inflation - $715 billion for 2022 - but let's see what this new super sonic missile, impact of AUKUS pact, and the Korean weapons build up, mean for US defence spending and 'innovation'.

148 million ain’t nothing, don’t get me wrong, but it ain’t that much. odd the Chinese gov isn’t covering these small bits of cash and the other bonds that were going to also/already did default to keep it all afloat, may be a conflict of interest to do so? or may be a calculated move to let Evergrande go bankrupt when they head to court in a few days.

the whole thing leading to a global financial collapse sounds a bit overblown tho. maybe i just don’t understand the scale of the money involved as a whole/who all the debts will fuck over. just seems weird that basically ever country in the world is in debt to every other country for literally trillions of dollars in some cases, but this one real estate company in China going under because of their debt could fuck over the entire global financial system? seems weird? maybe just sell some Evergrande NFTs mates??? quick and easy money in that yeah?????
