Some more Amorphous today, with the intriguing pair of Cartel albums, notably for being the first instrumental albums of the psychedelic Amorphous era, but also because several tracks contain elements that would go on to become part of the next two Environments albums.

...which is mostly your usual Amorphous fare, with plenty of guitar and flute freakouts...

The Amorphous Androgynous - Monstrous Bubble Soundtracks Presents The Cartel Vol. 2
...which I only now realised is actually very FSOL in places, with a lot of tracks feeling much more like the FSOLDigital side-projects and occasionally the Environments series than Amorphous. I barely gave this albums a listen on release, but this second volume really impressed me today, and I expect I'll be giving it many more listens in the months to come...

The Amorphous Androgynous – Solid Steel Radio Cartel Mix (22/11/13)
...and a radio mix to promote them. And with that, 2013 is done!

I suppose in some ways it's quite typical of a band who never do things the normal way, but this was the absolute proper 'new album' after Dead Cities, released in a totally understated manner as the fifth volume of a series that started out with archival releases. Only FSOL would do things this way.

The Future Sound of London - Environment Five

The other link with Dead Cities is this is an album that I had the opportunity to reassess through the writing of this blog, and discovered that I like more than I realised. Since my initial glowing response to Environment Five, my opinion dropped a little due to it kind of being the peak of down to Earth, emotional sounding FSOL as opposed to weird otherworldly soundscape FSOL, but revisiting it now it's so clear how utterly stunning this record is.

2014 remixes & compilation tracks, featuring the first proper 'FSOL' remix in 19 years, the first 'new' Humanoid material in 25 years, and the first re-recording of a '90s track. And watch me struggling to get enthusiastic about a whole album of Amorphous remixes

Also, the now familiar between-album EPs of 2015...

ooooh.  just found this little Amorphous nugget from 1994, that i never knew about... (Ephidrena outtake?)

Track 11 on this Virgin Comp: https://www.discogs.com/release/755100-Various-Signed-Sealed-Delivered-2

Ah, that ended up on From the Archives Vol 3 under the name Stomach Acid. Bloody great track, though. I think it was listed as being from Environments at the time, although I think they said that about everything that was unreleased in 1994.

Cheers NSS, you keep reading and I'll keep writing.

Actually I'll probably keep writing either way.

This features one of my favourite FSOL tracks, the sadly largely unheard 'The Equevelants'.

The Future Sound of London - The Most Important Moments in a Life / Life in Moments
An incredible book & CD package.

2015 remixes, compilation tracks and production work
In which I face in the unenviable task of wading through material by Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller and The Kooks, stumbling across a couple of excellent remixes and compilation tracks by Humanoid, Yage and FSOL in the process.

Touched Music FSOL Night 2 02/04/16
A few intriguing exclusives played on this show, including a couple of remixes nobody ever thought they'd hear.

The Future Sound of London - Nemone's Electric Ladyland 16/04/16
The first FSOL appearance on BBC radio in eight years, with a nostalgic look back on their Kiss FM mixes.

The Future Sound of London - Environment Six Plus
Really enjoyed listening to those two today, it's been a long time since I last gave them a really focused listen and they stand up bloody brilliantly. Think I might be reverting to preferring 6 over 6.5 again...
