Let the fleecing continue

Thank you for your recent order from the Orbital Official Store.

You may have noticed an Expanded Digital Download has been added to the store today which includes over 54 tracks, 2 exclusive live sets and remixes only available digitally.

You can order this using the details below and upgrade your purchase to include the Expanded Edition at the reduced price of £29.99.

How naive of me to think that 70 pounds was enough to spend on a release that would get me the whole release

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

And to see it in reality it'll cost you an additional 76 quid

and to play it another seven hunner

and to keep it in the cupboard 4 and a half grand

So the digital expanded edition is £29 at a discount rate on their site, but for the same thing on Bandcamp, it's only £20?

🤦🏼‍♂️

That £5 voucher is very generous, meaning they're only expecting me to spend £29.99 to get a handful of (but not all of the!) remixes. I know this is likely London Records's doing but it's fucking awful.

Anyway, the book's very nice, comes with some replica flyers, a lot of detail about the album and the tracks, loads of scans of reviews and interviews from the time, a solid hour or more's reading. Would have liked at least a couple of paragraphs on the artwork, I really love Grant Fulton's weirdly idiosyncratic designs, but oh well. He didn't work on the art for the reissue so maybe he wasn't available. Listened to the first two discs so far, it's really nice to have lots of these tracks in high quality, especially Untitled/Torpedo Town. 'Open Mind Jam' is nice but, er, it's actually a jam on 'Omen'. 'The Other One' is ok, bit basic, can tell why it wasn't released. Still a bit sad there's not more in the way of unreleased material, Paul put a few bits on his Soundcloud a few years back that were enjoyable.

Are some of these tracks new (oldies)? I've not heard them before

Going to see them in 2 weeks, wonder if they'll play all 7 hours 😆

As long as they don't play Belinda Carlisle over the top of Halcyon AGAIN

Took a listen to their first album today - haven't heard it in over 25 years. They were so good back then. I think when they disbanded in 2004, it was for the best. They didn't have anything left to prove.

Agreed, it all went to shit after The Middle Of Nowhere.

That “5th disc” of goodies was a nice surprise. Belfast Original Jam, Midnight (US Album version), Chime (US Album Version) and Chime (Friends of Matthew) seem to be the only “missing tracks”?  On one quick listen, “Open Mind Jam” sounded pretty close to the “Funky Alternatives” Mix (maybe that was licensed as exclusive to those comps, so they released Jam as a work around?)

So, here's the rundown, from what I can tell, of the Missing tracks list, now:

Belfast (Original Jam) 9:47

Deeper (Edit) 4:06 – (Was on the 2018 Release… though not sure if Remastered)

Chime (US Album Edit) 8:03

Midnight (US Album Version) 5:07

Deeper (Radiccio Edit) 7:00

Son Of Chime (Live @ The Brain) 5:50 – (Son of Chime Live at Synergy though…)

Satan (Edit) 3:40 – (Is The Industry Standard Edit from ’96 Satan Live the same mix?)

Satan (Fade) 6:16

Chime (Friends Of Matthew Remix) 5:00

Open Mind (Funky Alternatives) 6:27 – (“Open Mind Jam” Is Very Similar)

Satan Spawn 3:45

Chime (Live Style Mix) 6:47 And (Live Style Radio Mix) 4:19

Christmas Chime (Edit) 3:20

Christmas Chime 5:08

Also: for the completists... The 2 Mike Flowers "Mixes" and The Naughty Naughty "Remix" of Chime, and "Belfunk" by Sasha (Rejected Belfast Remix)

Okay. question for the Audio Nerds.

The original album was apparently "Dimensionally Enhanced with B.A.S.E"

A: What the hell does that even mean?

B: Is it even an actual thing? I've never seen any other album mentioning it other than this one.

C: Was the New Remaster also "Dimensionally Enhanced with B.A.S.E"?

B.A.S.E (Bob Acoustic Surround Enhancement) is a technology developed by Bob Carver, an audio engineer known for innovative audio equipment designs. This technology aims to enhance the stereo soundstage, giving listeners a more immersive and three-dimensional audio experience. It’s used to make the sound appear as if it’s coming from a wider, more enveloping spatial environment, rather than directly from the speakers. This kind of enhancement is often used in the mastering process of audio recordings to provide a richer listening experience.

Exeter on Wednesday, can't wait!

Also, thanks to this thread, I rediscovered Belfast/Wasted which I have probably not heard in about 20 years.  Fuck me, those vocals work so well. Blasted it out proper loud this morning
