What's in a name? (New Forum Naming Poll)

Alright alright, for real this time!

First round of voting for the new community's name. Thanks to all for the great suggestions. 24 made it in to the first round, we'll go for a top eight then top four then the finals.

not a huge fan of keyosc tbh. It's an inside joke for people who have been a part of this forum for years and doesn't really make any sense to anyone who is interested in electronic music and would be interested in joining our little corner of the internet for the first time.

When I first started browsing WATMM I had of course already enjoyed SAW 85-92 and the connection with the site name was obvious and inviting.

Same. It also feels a bit lacking in emotion. I’m still hung up on the sales connotation. I know, it’s a different spelling that has a keyboard oscillator reference in it, but saying the word out loud only makes me think of a little stand in a shopping mall that tries to sell you expensive, useless bullshit.

I’m also not a big enough fan of autechre’s post-1997 output to really care about that point.

As a counter argument I think the 'inside joke'/ae ref side of the name is almost tertiary to why the name works and is a perfect follow up name to We Are The Music Makers: When making music (especially the majority of stuff discussed on here) there's a solid chance it's gonna be made on keys - be it piano/keyboard, keys on a drum machine or step sequencer, or keys on a 'puter keyboard. And what is music at its most fundamental level: oscillations.

Then the 'kiosk'-y part of the name goes along with a kiosk being a place you go to for news & information - in this case electronically created music or key-osc-illations information

I'd never heard of the keyosc/watmm connection till last week but like keyosc because:

• Key and oscillator are (electronic) music things
• Keyosc is a made up word so domain will be cheap
• Kiosks provide news
• ... And the whole history/watmm meme thing
