marf
I think that humming sound is organic. Like a metallic sound stretched out. Maybe he slapped a salad bowl and got it in delay box and stetched it out and isolated the sound until it looped. It has a lot of harmonics in the sound. Much more than analog synths produce. To my ears. Thats a karplus string in fenix. beneboi
I use reason, but I dont use any of the synths/patches/samples, i use it for the redrum and the dr rex, as im used to sequencing stuff that way. The only hardware I own (or want to own) are physical instruments, mixer, drum machine, mics. To my ears. well analog synths have infinite harmonics, which is 1 thing distinguishes them from digital. i dont think he sampled anything, more likely it is some part of his equipment picking up 50 hz UK ac mains hum, but who knows (cares). what analogue equipment does karplus strong? marf
You can't get sounds like the metallic harmonics of a string on a guitar or metal bowl from an analog synth. Its impossible. Im not bragging, and maybe I suck, but I own a Minimoog and an sh5 and never got a sound like that hum. But my ear my be deceiving me. Maybe he miked his refrigerator with a stethoscope. Sounds like an engine like that. Id be very surprised if it was unintentional hum or some other fuck up. I seriously doubt it. It sounds organic to me. Not a filtered oscillator from an analog synth. I'm listening to the sound now. Seems he also adds a second sound on top sounds like a saw wave filtered. I think it was added intentionally for effect. But I could be wrong of course and it really is just a hum from a bad power strip. marf
Oh and you can make a karplus strong string with analog and digital. It just involves a delay and a noise burst. You 'll notice its karplus in fenix because as the notes go lower the delay in the sound gets longer and more spaced out. here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karplus-Strong_string_synthesis Edited September 4, 2007 by marf Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/25139-analord-hum/page/4/#findComment-541365 Share on other sites

Karplus-Strong string synthesis From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Karplus-Strong string synthesis is a method of physical modelling synthesis that loops a short waveform through a filtered delay line to simulate the sound of a hammered or plucked string or some types of percussion. This is a subtractive synthesis technique based on a feedback loop similar to that of a comb filter. IF this is a 'analord is all analog' argument then i choose not to be involved.
