aphex twin uses lots of black key (pentatonic scale) melodies on most of his early material because he doesnt know how to play keyboards for real........... discuss

haha, i do that when I play piano!

or i get other musicians to play in c major or a minor so i can just push the white keys.

your just taking out any dissonance whatso ever when you play the black keys, so it all just sounds decent together. pleasing on the ear, but boring as fuck.

and to be honest, if your writing melodies in this day and age, either its some fucking atonal serialist wierd shit, or its been done before by people much more skilled at writing music than you.

that really famous radio head chord sequence, i think its in 'everything in its place' is almost directly lifted from liszts second ballade. liszt uses the sequence as a little filler to the next section, but radiohead wrote an entire tune on its repetition.

see also procol harem, duran duran,

a whatever.

you can go and do a web search yourself for the etceteras.

suffice to say this is very common practise.
