Guest The Worm
First I thought Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the best television series ever. Then I saw Six Feet Under. Then I saw The Shield. Then I saw Deadwood. Now, I have to say it's The Wire. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/32391-the-wire-appreciation/#findComment-691557 Share on other sites

I even have the Chosen collection, so it's the only TV show I legitimately own besides Deadwood. FLA FUR BIS FLE
Omar is one of the best characters in any series I've ever watched. Gimme a pack of Newpawts. How do? FLA FUR BIS FLE
well it's not who the character is based on, to my knowledge, but that is who I am refering to. He reminds me of Bubbles, except he's an alcoholic. Long live Henry Earl. Guest telikan
The real Bubbles (more or less) was named Gary McCullough, and was also the basis for one of the main characters in "The Corner" of the same name. He was involved in stealing metal and all that and David Simon did an article about him called "The Metal Man" before shadowing him for The Corner book. Bubbles is also partially based on a police informant like him, which is probably where more of his mannerisms come from than anything. Guest bod
No spoilers- Ive just finished season 5 and thought it wasnt quite as good as the others- the main story was a little bit OTT for the Wire (even more than Hamsterdam in season 3) and the media thing didnt grab me me too much But its still by far the best TV show. keltoi
it can be a bit obscure for it's own good sometimes but i still like to get it occasionally. i noticed that flourescant grey bloke from here is on this month's cover disc. i have no idea what you lot are ACTUALLY talking about. Ever Yeah, the last series did get a bit much, I didnt buy the Jimmy McNulty story at all. Its was still by far some of the best television ive seen and series 5 was let down by the 4 series that came before it and nothing else on TV. It was all worth it for Method Man's last scene. Guest telikan
I don't really see why people feel like they have to "buy" the McNulty serial killer storyline. It's still television. But even so, Simon learned from coroners that they way McNulty set up the bodies is the most evasive and foolproof way to commit a murder, and leave a homicide detective clueless. So in that sense, it is plausible. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/32391-the-wire-appreciation/#findComment-693808 Share on other sites
keltoi
is this the latest shitey dull american drama that our (uk)mainstream media are going to be ramming up our arses in boxset form? Guest telikan
Well people in Africa and Ireland have been watching it intensely for the last six years, so maybe it's just you. The only UK media that's ramming it up your ass is Charlie Brooker.
