You havent said if you'ld seen it or not, of you havent, kind of makes you point a bit moot.

you're the moot one pal. i said i had no idea what everyone was on about and joked about wire magazine.

I HAVEN'T SEEN IT... but i bet it's shite like all those others.

i apologise for the pal bit above... that was wanky of me.

i've given him a chance before and i just don't get seinfeld's appeal... like woody allen. that awkward, socially stunted, stereotypical complaining jewish thing doesn't do anything for me i'm afraid (lol maybe it's too like me).

enjoying seinfeld has nothing to do with jerry seinfeld appeal. he isn't funny.

just finished epidode 5, season 4.

holy shit, the program will forever have a special place in my er, heart. seriously though, there have been so many moments of poignancy and gravity watching it so far, its ridiculous.

on a small note, i noticed in that last episode, during a pretty paltry scene wherein some corner kid was waiting out for a friend, during the questioning by another kid on that he would be another couple of hours they artificially went to the effort of putting in fake cold steam coming from his mouth. i mean, its such a paltry thing, completely inconsequential, but they went to the effort of doing something like that just to accentuate the fact that he was waiting and it was, in fact, a cold day. and its like that is the spirit of this program - not giving a fuck about success, just making a piece of intensely studious art.

also - the parallels/juxtiposition between the system and the game. cincetti and marlow. polar opposites but alike in the greater context - (forgive the use of 'moral') but marlow coming up immorally in a game that is amoral and has lost its waning rules of street morality, and cincetti coming up morally in a system that is amoral and has lost its roots of morality/integrity/social care(?).

this program says more about america than any manifesto or sweeping allegory, its just so plaintive. no bullshit, just purely brilliant observatory art? social commentary? i dont know what it is. just fucking good tv!

just finished the first season last night. good shit. very similar to the shield in a lot of ways. sometimes its a little too heavy handed and some of the acting is pretty uninspired (could mcnalty aka nick nolte be any more generic? and could his mouth be any crookeder?). i was bummed when kima got shot and even more bummed when wallace got killed.

hopefully i'll start on season 2 tonight.

Halfway through series two here. I agree that McNulty the smirky everyman seems a bit fake compared to some of the other chars, and that gets even worse in S2. The whole thing is frighteningly addictive though. Love the pacing!

If you haven't gotten to episode eight yet, you'll really appreciate how over the top McNulty is and not really care how realistic his character is. Epic cold opening.

The Wire got shit, very quickly. (the magazine)

i just realized i was thinking of Wired magazine and you were probably thinking of The Wire seeing as how you're from the UK.

and either way i don't read either, so i don't know why i'd sound like a reader of either, and any joke about mistaking either for the show the wire probably would be dumb.

SO THERE.
