further evidence why Confield is the best album evar.

No votes for Drane from the first peel sessions? Just thinking of it now creeps me out. Turn it up loud, put it on loop, and be prepared to lose your marbles....

tsch-tschshsh-tscccSSSSSSSSHHHHHH-shhshshsss......tsch-tsshshshs-tscHHHHHHHHHH....

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

Lots & lots of them. The middle of Draft and the beginning of the new one. There's eerie undertones all the way through the new one.

Overand gives me the willies too...particularly on a cloudy day, after a fresh rain, near or in the woods, all alone.

Cfern is cool... I would call it creepy but not unsettling. Nothing on Confield stirred much emotion out of me though I think it's cool-sounding.

Caliper Remote also does something for me.

Vose In gives me this really crazy feeling... I can't call it unsettling but it's such a strong feeling - like getting a fleeting glimpse of the infinite machinery controlling reality. Even 7 years later it still does it for me.

Hmm... I can't pick a "most". It really depends on my mood. They're really good at stirring up tension (if the end of Ccec isn't testament to this, I don't know what is) and they're also good at slipping in hidden details that, once revealed, are like out-of-place, staring eyes.

Early part of Pro Radii (was doing a lot of @cid when untilted came out)

Also going to join the Parhelic Triangle bandwagon.

It seems a lot of people found Confield to be the most unsettling album. I would say Draft myself -the whole thing really bothered me for quite awhile at first, but I kept listening to it anyway knowing that there was something lurking in the shadows. Untilted took that darkness to a much more sterile, metallic level; the tracks feel like large sprawling robotic monsters. Quaristice, hate to say it, does kinda sound like they are trying to throw together a mixed bag of elements from all their previous work. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It's too early for me to have a set opinion of Quaristice.

[NP: Surripere. Yep...feckin' creepy. So dark and sparse - lots of space - monsters lurking in the shadows.]

Does anyone else start to see ae tracks as living (or possibly robotic) organisms after awhile?

Guest burnibus

its wierd Zeiss Contarex for me is one of the most beautiful tracks they have done and was from first listen. The fact that the scratching bit degraded harshness actually becomes the melody throughout the tune just sucks me in every time absolutely amazing. one of the many ae tunes where i think "no one else in the world can do this to me".

also uviol i never really listened to until the webcast when they played a version, i thought it was new shizzle cos only owned confield for a week and i thought it was properly stunning. Pahrelic triangle is pretty sinister though, makes me think of mechanical wasps burrowing into flesh.

I now have settled on 'Fol3' as the track that disturbs me the most. It sounds like some kind of psychedelic diety made of wind and debris, trying to speak to you. The image of this 4-dimensional being approaching me from the sky while listening to this freaks me out...I love it.

(Bob Wilson) Sorry... you created that reality tunnel, you can find your way out... You built the Trap... you know the design better than anyone...sagatsfz3stage.jpg

This thread proves that Confield is the best album ever. Admit it guys.

My answer is Bine.

But let me take this opportunity to gush more about Confield.

It is by far the most emotionally engaging Autechre album. Draft got its fair number of "unsettling" votes, but Confield wins, plus it has all kinds of other emotionally engaging tracks that go far beyond "unsettling." I really didn't give a fuck about Autechre until I heard Confield. People whine about how unaccessible it is, but it was my gateway drug, so I don't know what the fuck they're talking about. Even at face value, it's more melodic and percussively straightforward than LP5 or EP7.

I'm drunk, that's why I'm rambling.

Bine fucked my shit right up for a long time, but it doesn't bother me as much now.

Lentic is still pretty disturbing though--it sounds like the protracted tragic circuit-death of your best robot friend. And then it just kind of dies. Like Pris, y'know, in Blade Runner.

Parhelic is pretty creepy, too.

Fuck I love Confield.

I had more trouble getting into Draft for some reason, but none of it really creeped me out so much. Surripere has a bit too much of a narrative to be properly horrifying.

I dunno about you guys who said Drain. Great track, but it's pretty uplifting imo.

Guest Chogg

Well, I definitely agree that Confield is the most emotionally engaging and to me it has the most life bubbling in it (it is my favourite or possibly second to LP5 since that was the first ae album I fell in love with).

When referring to Draft as being unsettling I meant more so that it bothered me. Confield has its fair share of creepy tracks but they didn't bug me, I just loved them.

Ah, see. I think I agree then, and probably completely.

Confield had more tracks that communicated a creepy emotion to me (which was throughly enjoyable), but Draft was definitely a more unsettling experience, from a musical perspective. And still is. I love Draft, but it's still the most challenging listen for me, despite having it since it was released and listening to it a ton. I guess that indicates how extremely fucking unsettling it is. There's this feeling, for me, of really important unsaid information in Draft, and all shreds of those barely-there ideas are obliterated by the end of almost every track. And that's a fucking scary thing to accept. It's this abstract loss that's less emotionally grounded than the aural zombies of Confield, but it's way harder to accept. Lentic kind of straddles both kindsa creepy, and maybe that's why it has the biggest impact on me.

I think Reniform Puls might be more unsettling than Surripere, by a wide margin.

It's gotta be Parhelic Triangle once more, the mood is unique and disturbing, but it's still very enjoyable...probably even the least arduous track on Confiled. I love it how the noise comes back in the end, just in case anyone felt they somewhat managed to escape it as the track was fading. Ha I remember I made this shitty old clip to it years ago -

Vletrmx21 and Yulquen I find to be the highly emotional ones in the ambient division... while Overand is just the soundtrack to your common utterly disorientating dream. :) Yet I think its different to S.A.W.2, but the comparison is evident.

Finally, Hub from Chiastic is a very desperate one for me, makes you feel trapped somehow.

lol @ the video

I think the synths at the end of IV VV IV VV VIII sound pretty unsettling, but beautiful at the same time.

I find sim gishel unsettling

Pro Radii at parts is unsettling too.

I'M SORRY FOR BEING ME I CAN'T HELP THE WAY I AM
