a month ago i gave the whole catalog to a friend, and while liking most of it as background music during work (but not properly listening), out of all things he really got hookedtothemax to Untilted recently and is listening all the day now. So... it seems to be unpredictable what people will like and what not... Untilted isn't exactly accessible is it? They need find something to "dock on" within the music, which gives them interesting associations of some sort...

Tell them "stfu...I'm serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer," and play Confield.

i like your idea of them needing to find something to dock on to because i've showed it to alot of my friends, and everyone seems to take interest in different tracks.

Incunabula is probably the best introduction to Autechre. Despite it sounds nothing like the later stuff.

Incunabula is pretty accessible, although keep in mind if you say that ae is the most innovative cutting edge music and then play them some early 90s electronic they might be a bit confused. If they have been exposed to electronic music at all it will probably just sound like dated techno to them.

Better to just be honest about what they sound like and they will either like it or not. Just play Simmm, most people who like the lighter electronic music stuff and don't like Quari or most 2000+ ae still seem to like that song.

my girlfriend surprised me by singing the eggshell melody awhile ago

(Bob Wilson) Sorry... you created that reality tunnel, you can find your way out... You built the Trap... you know the design better than anyone...sagatsfz3stage.jpg

i would try not to "tell" them anything, but kind of create a situation in which ae is playing

my friends and i used to camp on weekends in high school drinking beer and smoking weed

maybe make a mix or a compilation and put it on just for vibe's sakes, nil is a good choice

i had success with this method at a party one time when i put on alberto balsalm

though i enjoy later ae my favorite era is still inc/amber and i would probably start with 444

Most of the People i introduced or had to introduce with Autechre were People that had a feel for Abstract Art.

I said them its the same approach only that it comes soundwise...

The People i know that have the Musical understanding for Autechre already lsten to them so...

And for anyone of you that dont dig Abstract Art, your missing something believe me...

For all dutch-speaking Autechre fans: a nice guy on last.fm told me about the last half hour of a radio show on which a listener is given the opportunity to showcase a certain artist. Someone decided to try and convince people to check out Autechre using three tracks: Eidetic casein, Liccflii and Gantz Graf. Before and after each track he tried to explain Autechre to the host (and the host doesn't seem to know a lot about electronic music.)

Cheers for that link. Pretty entertaining hearing this, especially on a radiostation this big. I would've chosen a totally different range of songs though (I think a chronological order would be alot better, starting with incunabula/amber and finishing with something from quaristice, see how the music evolved).

"it's like drum'n'bass without the bass." said a friend of mine while hearing ae live for the first time

lol

I don't know whether I should be glad or sad about not understanding more of this radio show, my dutch is only based on German.... the choice of tracks could be worse, but I only would have considered Gantz

"i apologize for inflicting my superior elitist electronic music music taste on you but i am now going to put on Ae and this is undoubtedly going to totally freak out your tiny unevolved mind you fucking boring square in fact i retract my apology and demand an apology from you for not already owning the japanese deluxe import version of the Unlstnbl Bolx EP oh God i cant wait to see the horrified look on your pathetic ignorant face you worthless contemporary mainstream music buying sheep in fact there is no point in even talking to you or playing you any of my totally awesome and superior illegally downloaded mp3 collection as you would probably just hear my words as random incoherent syllables and your retarded brain will probably collapse or explode upon the first millisecond of track 1 but know this - i am above you in every way and i am correct absolutely my taste is impeccable and you are but a tiny piece of shit on my electronic music boots that mercifully i have tried to educate and make into a better more intelligent person - one more worthy of my awesome friendship - by introducing you to a new cerebral world of boring unlistenable music"

Personally I refuse to associate with anyone who didn't buy Cavity Job on its day of release. And if they like any of that 'guitar' music rubbish then they're dead to me.
