I think he just needs to put a couple special cases in, I don't think he purposely put these in, the filter just saw the 6 letter sequence. Also I think the electronic music filter is totally fucked up.

for example the word sAfrican American

or the word African Americandly

The word filters were put in place due to members of the forum being offended by racial epithets, and since asking people not to use such language didn't work, the filters became a matter of necessity.

I don't recall once being asked NICELY not to use India Delta Mike.  Not to mention I've not met anyone in this forum that seems quite as offended by it as you are, Joyrex.

My point is that the filter's purpose is to reduce offensive language.

If I was in the administration, and I suddenly found the word "music" annoying, and filtered it to be "audible expressions," there would be a fucking uproar here.

eye dee em is not an acronym, it's an abbreviation. An initialled abbreviation.

Please add acronym to the word filter, to be replaced by abbreviation, and this should solve the problem.

Carry on.

wait, what. whats the difference between acronym and abbreviation. i thought abbreviation was shortening the word/phrase and acronym was making a word out of initials.

an acronym is a type of abbreviation.

but for instance i think SONAR is an acronym, also using the 2nd letter from SOUND to create the word... rather than just the initials.

i think.

i can't help but laugh at how futile this kind of censorship is. in it's way it actually emphasizes the offensive language in so far as it forces the reader to translate the substituted word into its original, which is some what more of an involved process than simply reading the offensive word in the flesh. it's kind of like putting on black-face make up and then putting white make up over it...

joyrex can do whatever he wants of course, but this kind of technique seems a little misguided. i remember this bit in a zizek discussion in which he talks about "censorship" in movies from the 40s and 50s where a couple is about to fuck but then the camera fades out or pans out to the corner of a room, all of which forces the viewer to fill in the blank as it were, to construct the sexual act themselves which is in its way even more obscene than just showing it. the word filters as kinda like that.

(say hi to chax for me).
