i had extremely high expectations for this one, can't believe the film managed to top all of them. everything about it is pure perfection imo, the pacing, the music, the cinematography, even small details like the transitions between scenes. also it's not often i get choked up from just atmosphere alone. best film i've seen in almost 5 years / since there will be blood. i honestly can't think of one single thing i didn't love about it. and it's not just because of the whole 80's thing either, parts of it for example reminded me of bullitt, which is another all time favourite of mine. anyway, it's been a long time since i watched a movie and really didn't want it to end.

edit: sat down right after watching the film and finished the final track for my album in less than an hour, thanks for the inspiration injection drive.

i need to see this fucking movie

i personally think its the best movie of all time bsides etternal sunshine imo

the entire time i was watching it i was grinning and laughing and basically in awe at how perfect the movie was every moment of it

I'm just watching whatever films are on iPlayer that are above a certain level of bad. so i just watched fucking Scoop.. i had to resist turning it off for a while but it wasn't that bad really. edit: 4.8/10

I found this weirdly entertaining. At first I was like WTF is this ridiculous TV movie rubbish. By the end I was like Hey that was some great ridiculous tV movie rubbish.

Purple Rain - 1000000000000000 / 10

Crazy Heart - one of the most bland and unnecessary films I have watched in a long time.

Definitely one of the best films I've seen this year. I thought Gosling was amazing throughout. My favorite moment, besides the "Tick of the Clock" getaway scene in the intro, is when he is in the diner and says "How 'bout this: you shut your mouth or I kick your teeth down your throat and shut it for you." The music that comes in at this part is amazing, and does such a good job to reveal the dark side of his character.

There was one misstep however, the scene when he is talking with Shannon and he discovers that Shannon told the gangsters about Irene. I thought the acting there, which was improvised, was pretty unconvincing, and the way it was sort of montage-edited in with Driver's revenge plans made it seem like it shouldn't have even been there at all.

The most important thing is that most of the movie is so beautifully understated and minimal, which is how something I hope get's developed further by other films.

Cold Weather was an amazing movie. It reminds me a little of "Primer" which is one of my favs.

Meek's Cutoff was fantastic. The soundtrack is at least as good as anything else that's come out this year. If you liked "There Will Be Blood," this is much more understated, and so beautiful.

I also really loved Hanna.

Conan was so bitter and mean at certain points in this film. Really made lose some respect for him. He does seem like a good dad though. This film was not very good due to the depressing nature of Conan throughout it and his liveshow not being very funny. I wish I had not watched it. No mo Team coco fo Atop.

and 'Drive' is way better than you think it is Awkward, you might have been in a bad mood when you watched it, for me it like Lynch and Mann had a baby its name is Drive. Don't mind Max(you know you shouldn't),. he has almost ruined my love for Animal Collective. I am getting better at ignoring him. Going to see Panda Bear tonight should rekindle any lost love.

yah conan is very narcissistic.

lynchs name being brought up in relation to drive (before i saw it) made me disappoint too. aside from maybe lost highway headlights and stunted dialogue i didnt see it at all. i agree i may have been in a bad mood when i saw it but my expectations were not that high and i was very disappoint. the universal praise is confusing

Drive

10/10

Fucking brilliant

absolutely

audience reaction at the violence was lol. alot of gasps, groans, and "oh my god's." some dude even blurted out loud enough the theatre could hear "wow, anger management issues!" after the elevator scene.

Drive = watmm/10 the best film Michael Mann never made.

Salute of the Jugger (Blood of Heros in US) = 8/10 a post apocalyptic Rutger Huger classic that slipped under the radar. I saw this many years ago on VHS and recently finding the directors cut I'm pleased to find this relativity unknown B-movie gem is actually still a very well made and hasn't dated as much like most other 80 wasteland cyberpunk flicks. The script is a little sparse but the well directed steady pace and good cast keep you interested all the way through.

Transformers 2D = 7/10 not as full on as watching it at the cinema on drugs but as silly disposable action blockbusters go then this is the biggest no brainer of them all.

Star Wars A New Hope Revisited = 14/10 If you can imagine a reworked Star Wars that should have been then this is it mainly because Lucas has had absolutely nothing to do with it!

2 x jeff bridges in 2 nights

crazy heart - pointless nothing of a story + no interesting characters + incosequential script + nothing much else + colin farrel = waste of 2 hours

true grit - enjoyable remake of classic western which i haven't seen in 20 years so basically might've been watching a totally original film for the first time. Jeff Bridges great - far more oscar worthy than that crazy heart crock of shit that he won one for - great coen brothers dialogue as usual - young girl excellent - should've beat natalie portman to best actress oscar too - enjoyable western romp 7/10

See it one more time....it could be a creeper.

I thought Drive was well done & an interesting deconstruction of an action movie. Not the most entertained I've been watching a movie this summer (that would go to...uh, I dunno, Apes maybe), but def in the top bracket. Which doesn't mean I think Apes is a better movie than Drive but y'know.
