Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

Bloody good. That CGI monkey can act. Surprised me how engaging it was, and even the depiction of the science was pretty sound. I really didn't expect to be able to say any of that about a film about an animated monkey. If I could change one thing I personally would have called this film Thinking Monkey: Lets Get Mental.

I had such a bad taste in my mouth from that horrible Tim Burton Planet of the Apes that I rejected ROTPOTA without much thought. But everyone seems genuinely impressed. I'm going to see it soon, I guess, but had it been called Thinking Monkey: Lets Get Mental, I would have done so long ago!

infamous - WTF? I knew there were two Capote based films made at the same time and I'd previously seen and enjoyed Capote with PSH but I was expecting this to be more of a Capote biopic, not a weaker version of basically EXACTLY the same film. Did the script get simultaneously pitched to two different studios. Felt like watching a TV movie version of the same film all the way through. The Toby chap who played Capote was very good though and at times I wondered if he maybe was even better than PSH in the role. The recurring cut up interview scenes were awkward and lame. Juliet Stephenson was awful and Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee was... well.... Sandra Bullock :facepalm: . All in all - a waste of 2 hours.

Just watched the Rise of the Planet of the Apes (clumsy title if there ever was one). Thought it was alright and they made the main ape well enough to sympathize with it and his friends. The whole setup to allow the apes to take over the world made a sense. The scene with the classic Heston line was great. Also the mission to Mars that was happening in the background with the shuttle getting lost was a neat touch. Good entertainment.

Yeah, I was pleasently surprised by this when I watched it at the movies. Everyone in the theater went quiet during that-certain-scene. It was great.

Apollo 18 4/10 not bad but the style has been done to death since the blair witch project. and it was highly unbelievable at all that it was a 'true story'. no jumps, not scary, predictable, silly premise at the end. im glad i downloaded it and didn't go see it in the cinema.

also while i was in Russia i went to see (the) Rum Diary 5/10 I enjoyed the book much much more then the film, could of been done a lot better ect; ect;

It was terrible.

I've decided to watch the simpsons. I've seen all of season 1 and it's not very funny - what season should I start?

Season 3 is where it gets funny.

Seasons 3-6, give or take, are wonderful.

a clockwork orange 8.93/10 - with my neighbor, she's a huge kubrick fan but had never seen it. still just as good, of course.. i've really come to love how he uses close-up facial shots to convey madness/insanity/anger in several different situations.

Don't Look Now - 6.5/10. Some beautiful shots and decent performances overall. Something seemed familiar about it that I couldn't quite place until I saw that Nicholas Roeg directed it. I have liked some of his films (Man Who Fell to Earth, Walkabout) but I felt his editing style kind of got in the way in this one. It felt like it was wrestling with whether it wanted to be spooky or jarring/disturbing so it ended up feeling like neither, save for a few scenes. The random synth splashes here and there seemed out of place with the rest of the soundtrack as well.

that being said, NEW simpsons is STILL better than most tv programs

The Turin horse 10/10.

So beautiful, splendidly done. I seriously recommend it to everyone that loves Tarkovsky!

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

Stalker - very long and slow movie, I really liked the sepia scenes, now I now where Valve got their inspiration for HL2, anyway the movie is very philosophical and you're free to come to your own conclusions, it's certainly a journey for the viewer too. I need to rewatch the ending as I lost interest after a while.

Spoiler: I can't believe they just walked near the nuclear power plant like that, that surely can't be safe, I mean it probably is to some degree but who knows if they dumped some radioactive waste nearby.
