But Terry Gilliam's alternate "Cat Conquers All" cut is 10/10

You take that back right now.

walkabout 7/10

code unknown - this kinda felt like a more beautifully shot, artsy version of 71 fragments that lacked any significant climax or resolution. which i guess was the point. but i still felt like something was missing.

Got some blu-rays cheap on sale at....*sigh*...Walmart...but whatever they were good movies the last time I watched em, so I did another round.

True Grit (remake)-7/10

There Will Be Blood-9/10 (This film really is a masterpiece)

Ill Manors - 8/10

Totally the best storyline in a film ever. Wicked narration from Plan B.

Fairly silly and ultimately deep at the same time fam.

i had absolutely no problem whatsoever with Agutter boobies.

Rewatched The Prestige

8/10

IMHO Nolan's best film by far. He has a great talent for directing...the "mindfuck" aspect of his movies can go either way though...I personally loved Inception even if later viewings revealed the confusion in the uneccessary mystery surrounding the whole convoluted dream within a dream thing.

But Prestige is just amazing...everytime I watch it Im floored. The soundtrack is perfect, beautiful, droney, slightly dissonant, haunting and depressing. The setting makes a great match...the gritty, urban sprawl of the Industrial Age. You can feel the suffering and each character consumed by revenge and an overly competitive spirit. Great building of tension through the first and second acts.

Im usually no fan of Jackman, but I thought he was great here.

Moonrise Kingdom - 8/10. Anderson and Lynch I think are in the same class, where their actors' performances reveal more about the director than the actor. Good script, good child leads (so rare in Murika!), great score mostly courtesy of Benjamin Britten. I liked that it was able to sway easily between tempest in a teapot/this is serious. Bruce Willis was great. Frances McDormand is the best. Beautiful shots too, sets & set decoration were off the hook. Solid storytelling. Recommended.

Sexiest English woman of the 20th Century

It took half a year, but thread is finally back on track and once more discussing nude Jenny Agutter.

Rephlex should update its list of places of interest in Cornwall to include the bushes by Jenny's summer home at the Lizard.

edit NOT THAT I WO--

just saw this as well, i really enjoyed it the kid leads were pitch perfect. Very good casting. id give it more like a 7/10 only because it promised to be a little more emo than it actually was. I feel like Wes Anderson's movies have gotten less emo over time but i almost prefer to be tear jerked a little more while watching his stuff. Basically what im saying is i wanted to cry but the movie didn't force me to

infested/ticks - man, what cast for a direct-to-video gore flick! seth green, clint howard, even the carlton banks guy for fresh prince of bel-air, playing a badass wannabe. along mosquito (which in turn stars ron asheton of stooges fame) comes along as a decent, mildly funny and predictable little movie. there's even some ed wood goodness, like mic boom visible here and there. this was way fun.

also - the ticks blow up when you touch them with fire. what's there NOT to like?

movie night with me mum

The Iron Lady-5/10

The only reason it gets 5 at all is because Streep was fantastic. Shitty writing, and the "old lady confronting her demons with accompanying flashbacks" angle was absolutely fucking horrible.

Not to mention Thatcher is not one of my favorites.

the citizen kane police is on to you. hide yo kids, hide yo wife.

hard candy - so fucking close to blowing me away. guy kidnaps a girl, but the girl drugs him and starts some twisted game. in his house too! it's sad, but it turned out to be too heavy of a topic to not turn a bit naive in the psychological department. like the whole 'who's the real antagonist' thing was a bit too 'in your face', too obvious. but whole plot caught me off guard and ellen page as a psycho was surprisngly convincing, too bad she ended up the hipster it-girl. she was on to something great. and the ending is pretty intense, even if a bit of a let down. but if you don't notice the half-assed backgrounds and just stick to the, uh, violence - it's geat. no matter how wrong it looks written.

just noticed the director did 'donkey rhubarb' video, ha. and twilight saga: eclipse. but still, ha!

I think it's one of the most unintentionally brilliant movies I've ever seen. I've never laughed so hard at a real horror movie, and it never once seems lame or pathetic. You'd swear it was calculated to be an incredible satire on horror films.
