In the middle of Stray Dog, and I can't believe how young Mifune looks. How did he go from such a baby faced guy to the grimacing bastard in Throne of Blood?

That's what working with Kurosawa will do to you. But seriously, I think Kurosawa worked with Mifune so many times because he had such a broad range.

Die Hard - 9.5/10

Bruce Willis' smirk bugs the shit out of me but this is just a really well made action film.

Yi yi - Someone here mentioned this. Really enjoyed this. A very insightful look on modern life with some great characters. The more I think about it, the more I want to see it again. 5/5

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

style, clockwork timing, beautiful, perfection.

10 / 10

fuck yeah

Days Of Heaven - This is my second time sitting down with this film, though this time clothed in criterion craftsmanship... the new digital transfer is BEAUTIFUL and as is the new sound track. This film reminds why I consider Malick to be one of my favorite directors.

Caché

Funny Games/Bennys Video were more intense and obviously frightening than that piece, but the difference between the playtime (120min) and the brutal lack of information on whats going on made it for me.

I've been watching a couple of episodes of Dexter. It's pretty good. Most of the people who play his colleagues are absolutely awful actors though.

Dancer in the Dark

what a waste of 2.5 hours.... i hated this movie. boring, cynical, simplistic, and utterly pointless.

but, but....it has Bjeerk!

actually I recently tried to rewatch this film as well and couldn't get into it.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Dancer in the Dark 8/10

Spoilers: Factory worker (Selma) is slowly going blind, saves money to cure her child's potential hereditary blindness. She has only one friend who can't do anything except help her a bit as she gets more and more sight impaired. Mark Bell and Bjork make machine/idm beats and Bjork (selma) performs choreographed music numbers sporadically throughout film but this not a musical, it is a Von Trier film. Selma's neighbor tries to steal the money she has been saving to help buy his wife more clothes. Selma shoots him, he was a cop. Her son gets the treatment. She is put on death row, and then hung. End of film. I am crying like a helpless child due to the emotional impact this film has on me. And I will always do so, therefore I do not watch this film very often but it is the most pathos ridden film I have ever seen. Bjork is wonderful in it.

Now go watch Antichrist and gouge your eyes out with forks.

Saw Antichrist a couple of days ago and I'm disappointed. I love Breaking the Waves and most of his other work. But Antichrist... The first hour or so was great, loved the constant tension and the dark visuals/ambient. But when everything goes berserk I became a bit detached. Didn't understand what he was trying to say at the end either. May watch it again to connect the loose ends. But not really looking forward to it.

One of my favorite films from '05... have you watched Haneke's American remake of Funny Games? What a shit idea.

there will be blood (second viewing) - 9/10

i hated this the first time i saw it. the monotony and lack of female presence in it made me ill. watching it again on blu ray, at home, i found it entrancing. it's weird and depressing, but it hit me on some elemental level. i enjoyed the fact that the main character is totally amoral, and for some reason found myself admiring him. it's also a beautiful looking movie. although the score tries a bit too hard to be penderecki.

actually, i'm probably just going insane.

You're probably going insane, I liked your first review better.

THX1138. Didn't expect anything going into it and wasn't terribly surprised. I suppose the disjointed approach to narrative may foreshadow Lucas' decline into mental infancy, but for the most part it was pretty engaging. A solid, above average Sci-Fi flick. 8/10

State of Play: This was a garbage thriller, with one of the most annoying young actresses I've seen as the spunky "cub reporter." Badly written dialogue and completely implausible. Body of Lies and Michael Clayton were far better films in a similar vein. 5/10

In the Loop: Only half of the way through but this is the funniest film I've seen since Hot Fuzz. 10/10 so far.

agree on both counts, although i think it's funnier than hot fuzz :) read my review above (page 89) of state of play i had some questions as to why the plot overall makes no sense
