Where to start?

I keep forgetting Windowlicker.... Come to Daddy EP is actually very good too. Well the title-track isn't representative at all but the Bouncing Ball is one of my favourite tracks by him.

i think someone with a background of mainly rock music who is "sceptical" about electronic music will probably hate any aphex you play them. but that's good. play them that prodigy track with the shouty bits in it coz it's a bit like metal innit. bet they'll think it's like, well dope.

They may not like any of his stuff but the most likely albums to start someone with are ICBYD or Surfing on Sine Waves. People have differrent tastes though, many here think RDJ album is his best but its his least best, its been scientifically proven.

If someone really wants to give an artist a chance, he should be able to hold on and find out about the good tunes for himself imo

Even though this LP is pretty recent, I think it's quite accessible (still very aphex and awesome of course)

I started with SAW85-92, then SAW II, but what really blew my mind was "Alberto Balsalm". That song by itself was what caused me to start taking music seriously. That song got me into Aphex Twin, IDM/Experimental Electronic and Music in all its entirety.

Interesting... I think it did similar things as well. Alberto Balsalm bless his soul.

well for me personally i started with ICBYD and chosen lords. at the time i was right into BoC, and i had only heard of Aphex twin by name. Anyway i was at a mates one night and he played me the windowlicker video, and i was like wow, this is the kind of music that i like. up untill then he was just playing all his gangster crap. So a few days later i went to my local record shop and came out with those two albums.... had the house to myself, got nicely high and put on ICBYD. Jam Shred just blew me away, and i braced myself to get lost into this album, but to my dissapointment i was thinking WTF up untill Mookid. i was very interested to put on chosen lords, but only thistime i was like fuck this, i've had enough.... a few months later a found myself listening to chosen lords everyday.

Moral of the strory is to keep an open mind... i try playing Analord at a mates place, and he's like how do you listen to this shit? I gave another mate an Anolord mix, and about 6 months later he owns more RDJ that me, well only just. Basicly i don't think it matters what you start with, just depends on the person.

See this is what's crazy to me... how it all happens by chance/accident basically...

I fucking bought the RDJ album on a whim... could have easily picked something else out... since that decision my entire outlook on music was changed.

Yeah honestly like, I got my albums off of allofmp3.com (lolz) and just got SAW85-92, SAW II and ICBYD because at that time I figured those were his first albums. Those were all that were listed. It took me -so long- before I heard songs like "Windowlicker" and "Come To Daddy". But before then I was just reading his wikipedia page and I remember thinking "I'm going to really, really get into this guy's music". Like, before I heard any song. Before I heard anything remotely close to experimental electronic. I think the closest exposure to Electronic I had was DDR. I can't even believe how it happened that I got into Aphex Twin.

OH SHIT WAIT

I know why I got into him

I heard THAT site. I wondered what the fuck it was. It was so weird. The first time I heard it I was like "Damn, listen to this" [to my brother] "Listen to how weird that is" but there was something that kept drawing me back. And then from then I went to wikipedia and decided "I'm going to get into this guy's albums from the beginning" and went to allofmp3.com

Now of course I have RDJ Album on Vinyl and its my favorite album of all time

You should play them Daft Punk and just say, "It's just like this except with more  ".

They'll totally understand.
