i just inherited 10 grand

Recommended Posts

I'm 100% serious buy a :

Nord Modular g2 (used)

A Waldorf Q+ (used) (has analog filters and overdrive, up to 100 voices) and fantastic interface

A decent soundcard if you dont have one

And a good DAW (cubase, logic, abelton whatever your fancy)

And Buy the software emulations of the above instruments BCM mentioned from d16 group

OR

In stead of the d16 stuff buy a cheap used analog poly like a matrix 1000 (which has a badass free software editor)

All that and you'd have some cash to spare to invest into something or put in the bank and earn some interest or buy some bonds :)

But by all means the Nord Modular g2 and a good daw + the d16 plugs you can make any type of music and still be ahead of the curve in 5 years.

Edit: If you want somethign you don't have to be attached to the computer to and has all the knobs (and a onboard seq.) that you can fiddle around with for ages I say Q+ don't bother with the waldrof wave they are over priced, breakdown easy and are expensive to repair and the q+ is almost the same thing but better, only thing is it doesn't have re synthesis like the wave but I personally wouldnt care about that).

paying £1200 for an 808 is something you could only possibly do for the rush, the adaptation and the general backwardness of the act

it is absolutely retarded

Big loves on the M1000. And I know what Ludd means about the Jup8...

But if I has 10 grand, I buys a Matrix 12

If you're going to splurge money on a big poly.

Elka Synthex.

Anything else and you're an awful, awful cunt.

what if he buys a Synthex and doesnt let you play it?

I'll get my dad to beat up his dad.

I've never used one, but just for simple tone I think it beats the other contenders (the jupiters, oberheims, maybe even yamaha csxx). I think its the last vestige of my prepubescent Jarre phase.

If I wanted a mono, I'd probably go for a modular, and if money was no object, cwejman.

I confess to relative ignorance of the Elka. Im gonna obtain Jarre's Rendezvous and see if this can challenge the Obie for my #1 fap synth...

yeah but have you heard one?

I heard some clips that sounded pretty good to me. I honestly don't know much about this kind of stuff. I just really like how massive the thing is.

you could get some weird digital synth like a fizmo. I've been wanting one for a really long time, but its hard to find one that isn't broken because they have a defect. They make fucking awesome sounds unlike pretty much any other synth I have heard. Theres a synthedit clone which is pretty cool called "steam" but its not really the same thing.

srsly the daddy's of subtractive synthesis non sample based synths (and non software) in this current age are the waldorf q+ and the nord modular g2. They both have the most amazing interfaces. You could throw in a nord lead 2 or 3 but ou get no effects so I say no. G2 is a better bet. You can set one up just like a nord lead 1,2, or 3.

Get you those and a cheap analog poly (matrix 1000, matrix 6, or mono: novation bass station, waldorf pulse), for your few lil analog goodies and you're str8. Andromeda is a killer synth but alesis got bought out so no product support or upgrades on an incomplete synth, and half of their units shipped out defected (dead voice boards etc). Not worth it in my opinion.

waldprf q+ (+/-$2500)

nord g2 (+/-$1300)

cheap analog poly ([matrix 6,1000, etc]$300-400 tops)

all used, ebay, craigslist. more than enough to keep you busy for years.

matrix 12 is awesome but they break down and are expensive to repair and honestly you can get pretty much all the sonic goodness minus some mod features and the interface out of the matrix 1000, and you can stack the 1000's on top of each other (which are 6 voices) and add on and add on.
