- dsi p08

- moog voyager (emulated by minmonsta very well, plus you get poly)

or anything old and analog they are better for people that have a constant stream of money that can afford to keep them maintained/repaired, instead of a one time 10k deal

For cheap analog bass:

- dsi mopho (fatter with 2 sub oscs single voice p08 bout $350US new)

- waldorf pulse

- matrix 1000

.

*done*

cheers for all the replies. im gonna chill out and read up on all these suggestions and see what im going for.

modular doesnt look like fun to me, it looks like good rewards out of alot of effort.

i reckon i just want a sick fat sounding keyboard synth.

Then get a Nord Lead 2x

Best knobby interface, modern convenience of patch saving and it sounds flipping fat in the right hands.

jesus, how many people on here bang on about nords in every thread about synths ever. shut the fuck up about fucking nords for pity's sake.

Ignore this man, get all the above.

Or just the Matrix 12, that'll sort you out for life.

Also don't spend £1200 on an 808, wait for the silly credit crunch prices to go away.

yeah, i wouldn't spend £1200 on an 808 myself, i was just saying that if I had ten grand to like, spunk on synths, then maybe i would....if money were no object i definitely would. i well want an 808.

yeah, i've always thought they were pretty cool...but again, probably wouldn't buy one...for the same money you could get lots of more desirable stuff imo

yeah but have you heard one?

This is the only forum I've ever heard any ambivolence towards the A6 on, as far as I'm aware beyond the awful presets it's a total monster of a synth.

It is on paper, but all the demos I've heard sound like a vst vendor trying to show how "analogue" their vst is (blade runner filter sweeps etc).

Acidlab have a fully analogue 808 clone coming. It has step, tap and shuffle, and the demos where A/B it with a real 808 sound pretty convincing.

Plus it's called the Miami

MFB also has one coming out too, which has that DIY charm to it and sounds almost but not entirely quite like an 808 which is kind of appealing in it's own right.

OH SHIT

that actually sounds ok.

808 clones are all about the snare for me, cos I already have a JoMoX that do the kick

here's the miami (prototype):

Maybe it's because they're good. You cretin.

Health insurance is good too. That doesnt make it interesting.

srsly the daddy's of subtractive synthesis non sample based synths (and non software) in this current age are the waldorf q+ and the nord modular g2. They both have the most amazing interfaces. You could throw in a nord lead 2 or 3 but ou get no effects so I say no. G2 is a better bet. You can set one up just like a nord lead 1,2, or 3.

Get you those and a cheap analog poly (matrix 1000, matrix 6, or mono: novation bass station, waldorf pulse), for your few lil analog goodies and you're str8. Andromeda is a killer synth but alesis got bought out so no product support or upgrades on an incomplete synth, and half of their units shipped out defected (dead voice boards etc). Not worth it in my opinion.

waldprf q+ (+/-$2500)

nord g2 (+/-$1300)

cheap analog poly ([matrix 6,1000, etc]$300-400 tops)

all used, ebay, craigslist. more than enough to keep you busy for years.

matrix 12 is awesome but they break down and are expensive to repair and honestly you can get pretty much all the sonic goodness minus some mod features and the interface out of the matrix 1000, and you can stack the 1000's on top of each other (which are 6 voices) and add on and add on and on and on

i'm a bit drunk and kind of tired and your post is putting me into the final comasm,lfdsldkjg;;j./;fgh

whatever that means your psychedelic cake avatar is doing the same to me.

+5 to the hat

just got a good idea instead of listening to us....go and find out for yourself...i dunno where you liv ein the uk but...

http://www.millennium-music.co.uk/home/aboutus.pl

This place seems pretty decent and i've eard of some good shops in the uk that will give you time and privacy to try out synths, unlike noisy pressure induced guitar centers here in the US.

do that.

i still say waldorf q+ tho.

I understand not feeling the modular deal so you can rule out the nord g2.

but a nord 2/3 with a decent compressor+effects (mainly delay) unit would suit just fine.

But srsly. Go to a store try it out. If you don't like it, return it.

Twiddle, get some sounds you like.

etc
