i'm just an old never-left-the-house aphex twin wonk who worships at the pillar of 1997, when really alls i can say is 1997 is about as good as it'll ever get: prove me wrong.

2001 - Drukqs

despite 1/2 of the album being weird little piano shit i prolly wouldnt recognize if someone played for me, most of those tracks, while great adventures in the potential of thee electronic musics, tend to come back for one iteration too much. cock version 10 should end at 3:27, the omgaifasjhfdashasya switch track and shit theres others too.

granted, 1997 is more of a squarepusher year, but even for dearest aphex it's quite hard to fuck with hard normal daddy and big loada in one year, not to mention with come to daddy there and autechre nearing the ass-end of their greatness (wasn't chiastic slide 97!?@) with the notable exception of peel session 2.

in 1997 i had this naive belief that someday aphex twin squarepusher autechre and the like would become insanely popular and unilaterally recognized as some of the most important music in the world.

and like, it seemed to be coming true with come to daddy winning a week straight of that mtv music video competition show, and you could walk into stores like best buy and nab the shit immediately with a big back section.

fortunately, those whose music i consume have better foresight than I and consequently avoided that pitfall.

Absolutely no.

I hate it.

A girl from my class once asked me if there's a limit as to what you can call music - e.g. noise. First of all, I don't know why she asked me, but I told her that it's a subjective thing, so no one can be a judge of what's music and what's not. Then she kept asking me why and if I would call noise music. I gave her the same answer. And then she asked me again... that's when I kicked her in the cunt.

wow this sinicalypse guy's posts are longer than most of mine! We should make a thread exclusively for us.

But yeah I totally agree with all that stuff about semantics of music discussion. Its true that music theory helps in understanding music because its the universally agreed-upon description of music, however that does not mean that there are not completely separate other ways to understand it. It is, after all, one of the only things that we come into contact with on a very regular basis that has no shape or visual appearance whatsoever. Songs exist as entities, but beyond that they are more or less completely undefinable by language of any sort.

That is what really draws me to music. I am very xenophilic (i think thats the word) in that I am very interested in the unknown aspects of life. Drugs interested me quite alot for the majority of my teen years, however I have more or less trodden that ground now, and I realize that there are equally perplexing and new things to explore in sober life.

Music is certainly one of those things. First of all.... why does rhythm/tones make you feel good? Virtually every aspect of the human mind can be explained by evolution, but there is, evolutionarily speaking, no real reason why we would have evolved to prefer certain sound patterns. I am certain music must tie in very deeply with the inner workings of reality.

Beyond that even, is the understanding one comes to when one begins to write music. You gain a whole new language, a whole new vocabulary, a whole new set of ideas/thoughts/emotions that COMPLETELY defy explanation, however you understand it regardless, and you understand it in your very core.

Check.

I figured you would enjoy that sneak.

Speaking of sneak, your sneak skill is probably like 170% or so. I mean, thats pretty cool but personally I think the sneak skill is kind of useless. I would much rather pile my skill points into like... small guns and energy weapons, and a good lockpick to boot. You seem like the kind of dude who would take preference to the sneak skill though.

Not to derail the thread or anything.
