What takes them so long?

I think BoC will be hosting a surprise performance at Warp 20 and announce their new album that night

Whats with the hate on TCH? In my opinion it is way a more cohesive/less gimmicky album than geogaddi. I think the main reason their albums take so long is because like any artist they want their music to move forward, yet they don't want to abandon their original musical roots. They have to balance their music out to be their own crafted style and not just an album filled with shoegaze/post-rock with an idm tinge.

Hmmm, geogaddi for me is the most consistent album of theirs for me. I think the gimmicky thing happened when loads of people started reading into everything on the album too much. As they said themselves they made something way more stripped down because of that. Personally I found tch to be lacking in anything for me to latch on to. While it's a nice enough listen I just lost interest. I don't ever really feel the urge to listen to it.

I think Campfire was an awesome album, not as good as Geogaddi (perhaps the greatest record i've ever heard) but every bit as good as Music Has The Right To Children. Yeah, it's a lot easier on the ear and a great record for cruising to, and obviously made with road trips on the mind, but outstanding none-the-less.

I'm not saying Boc should become U2 or Luke Vibert in terms of material, but it would be nice if they release an EP at least if they don't plan to release anything major for some time to come.

On the subject of TCH, to it is more musically inclined while Geogaddi is a concept album of sorts. I can't imagine myself listening to Geogaddi on my way to work like I do with TCH, the acutal MUSIC on geogaddi (melody,etc..) I feel is weighted down by the themes that BOC tried to incoproate into that album, unlike TCH which was fairly "pure" in a thematic sense. Sorry for the off-topic rabble.

I was under the impression that all their albums had been conceptual.

Yeah, but I guess the concept for TCH was a bit more loose/ill-defined/open to interpertation to what the actual concept was/touched upon in a few songs but not a consistent theme throughout the album. Nealy all of Geogaddi's tracks are consistent with the occult theme of the album. MHTRTC in my opinion has the best mix of theme-to-music ratio.

I don't know, TCH seems perfectly suited for an hour drive to the beach, if you ask me.

Yeah it does, but I think that is just the general "chill" feel of the album rather than the theme BOC were trying to achieve.

i always thought the pages of insane / practical specualtion was really cool and hilarious, i never understood why they or anyone freaked out on that.

do you think it was a "now that i read the charlie manson--alpha and omega connection i can't get it out of my head so the album is ruined" ? i can enjoy geogaddi well on its own merits after years of bullshit. if at all, the madness just energized the weirdo/epic vibe of it IMO. like a dense and powerful stone that will make some crazy if they touch it.

but i did read some stuff from people wanting to "travel to Scotland" and shit, which is a good reason to kill the dream. anything interpreted as fan-hate is most likely a result of this. you can't get any closer to them than listening to their albums, twoism forum i'm looking at you.. it was an effective as hell record though. what an impact!!!111

I honestly don't know why the fuck anyone dislikes The Campfire Headphase in the slightest. That record is one of the most chilled out albums ever made. There is nothing else like it -- seriously I've looked. Frankly if you don't like it, I'm not going to take you too seriously on music. Of all people I figure fans would appreciate it the most but the more I've lurked WATMM and various forums and seen the hate on it the more I think the haters are smoking fucking cynical-filled crack. Shpongle reaches that level of chillness as does Pink Floyd and some jam bands and such but no one has ever done what BoC did on TCH. I have no idea why people hate such a great record.

the #1 complaint i've read is that is sounds "flat", therefore heralding the "end", even after Skyliner appeared.

I was listening to it this morning. It certainly is an excellent album, seems like a more mature, mellow direction BOC swayed towards around the TCH era. I still highly rate Geogaddi as my favourite - I couldn't have a go at guessing what the next style will be like for a new release though.

the biggest illusion is yourself

I think what everyone is forgetting here is they are releasing music they want to produce, not so they can make fans happy (that's just a fortunate byproduct) - of course, it's to eat and live as well, but what they put out I certainly don't think is geared towards their listeners - they put out the music they want to make and hear. If it takes them 4+ years to release something, then so be it - they're not beholden to the needs of their fans whatsoever.

"Mike: "With every record we try to make it able to stand up on its own without relying on what's currently going on. We're making a unique mental and temporal bubble for our records to exist in. This time we set out to make something simple that had shades of a road movie soundtrack, like the musical score to a surreal journey across a late 70's North American desert highway. I think of it as a sort of skewed pop record."

The first thing I thought of the first time I heard Chromakey Dreamcoat was sunlight filtering through passing foliage.  It seems to me they came pretty close to the theme they were trying to achieve.  Honestly, I was turned off by TCH at first, but it grew on me (I was working in a pet store, and would play it in the aquarium section all day to distract me from the pop radio they usually played).

Although some BoC Subforum posters should see this coming (see flaming homosexual), the general

rule is to not totally shoot someone down because they like TCH. If the argument gets

out of control, then Michael and Marcus will step in and provide

a more Branch Davidian solution to the argument.
