shouldnt "tell them" feed directly into "oh snap" because the question clearly does not need to be asked if someone is told.

fred to be honest the 'bohemian' lifestyle of being a tenant who is a slave to a landlord and reliant on said landlord to make any repairs or improvements to one's living area is far far worse than being a homeowner. take it from someone who has experienced both.

convert the creepy cave into Alzado's hideaway so i have place to stay when I come to visit at Christmas.

imagine the joy of waking up early on christmas morning to find me anxiously waiting by the tree in my underpants.

Yes, especially if the house is a fixer-upper. Things will break on a regular basis, and even if they don't break, renovation urges will happen in either your wife, you, or both of you. You might as well start TiVOing HGTV 24/7 and the DIY channel right now.

the future wife watches hgtv 24/7 and i fucking hate it. we'd better buy a new house or i will be living that nightmare even more so than i am now

you become a real man when you become a home owner... when you have a well equipped tool box and bulging tub of assorted screws, ready for any job, large or small which might arise.

in my armory of tools i now have a circular mitre saw, jigsaw, hand saw(metal), hand saw(wood), power sander, cordless drill, hole cutters, 2 hammers, spirit level, tile cutting jig and assorted tiling tools, full set of metric and imperial allen keys, assorted screwdrivers, chisels, plains and wood working tools, adjustable spanners, stilson grips, pliers and snips, etc, etc.

we bought a fixer upper for a great price about 3 years ago and i'm loving fixing it up. it had a solid traditional shell and massive potential but was such a mess you had to have a good imagination to see through it... walls needed replastered, wooden floors needed repaired or replaced, architraves were missing, skirting was missing or mismatched, original 100 year old doors were mismatched or covered in hardboard, radiators needed replaced, the bathroom was just a joke and the kitchen needed serious upgrading attention... which i have gradually worked round... i've got a few things still to do but i've been having a life along the way too. i'm happy paying for this stuff when i think how much i wasted paying rent and putting up with faulty, tired shit for years.

i walk around my property with pride and a sense of achievement (huge boner)... and hopefully when our house prices stabalise again we'll be ready to move and reap the rewards of my efforts.

i wish i had a fuckin idm cave in my gaff though, that would be amazing but we're on the 3rd floor so i'd need to tunnel into my neighbours flat. is it big enough for a studio/workspace?

This. Screws need a Quality Street tinthough, for the true "I'm a man now" effect.

i think my multi-sectional purpose made tupperware screw tidy out-mans your chocolate tin although i admire your diy ethos ... your solution is fine for the diy dabbler but for a serious home improver like me, organisation is paramount.

Fail. You are not a home owner (in the true sense of the word) if others own (or rent) a part of what you supposedly "own".

Your home must be stand-alone, on it's own property to truly be "your" home and to "own" it.

You're not a home-owner unless you live in a detatched house?

Yes; how can you claim to own something that you share with others? It's not like you can take your part and leave; essentially it's like renting, in the sense that yes, do you technically "own" the floor you live on, and can sell it, but you can't just do anything with it (like tunnel down and make an IDM cave) since you share the structure with other "owners". I've never understood how people who own condominiums can consider themselves owners since if anything happened to the structure (say the person who owned the land it's on sold the land), they'd be at the mercy of the "true" owner; the landowner.

Technically, yes, you can, but that's not my point - I am the sole proprietor of said property - it's not a partnership (well, not counting my wife, LOL)

home (HOUSE/APARTMENT) Show phonetics

noun

1 [C or U] the house, apartment, etc. where you live, especially with your family:

The senator has two homes - an apartment in Washington and a house in Colorado.

He was living on the streets for three months, and his home was a cardboard box.

Phone me at home after four o'clock.

I took home a couple of books to read.

He left home (= stopped living with his parents) when he was 23.

More and more couples are setting up home together without getting married.

2 [C] a house, apartment, etc. when it is considered as property which you can buy or sell:

luxury/starter homes

the owner's of the flats own the land between them. my ownership is detailed in the deeds to the property (which i own).

also what are you on about 'take your part and leave'? you can't do that with property anyway... so you're suggesting that if you share a partition wall with a neighbour you don't actually own your house? it's a party wall equally owned by each property owner, neither of which is allowed to do anything to without consent from the other. all these things are covered by law.

either things are very different over there or your grasp of property ownership, deeds, etc. are paper thin. i'm flabberghasted.
