I understand JoyTex's comment... a friend of mine bought a condo, from my point of view he bought an apartment. I bought a house. Big difference.

the difference is you've got a superiority complex.

joyrex does your 'house' have a tow bar on it?

he bought an apartment and that is a home, so he is a home owner. EDGEY and Joyrex seem to think house and home are the same word

jesus christ

I think one of the major difference lies in the fact that the property is not co-owned, I don't have to share any public space with anyone, I don't have to share an elevator or a stairwell, I don't have to share my backyard, my frontyard, or my shed, I don't have to share my storage area, nor my driveway. The house, and the property is mine, there are no other owners on a floor above me, below me or otherwise. Noone steps on my property without my say, and if they do, I cock my shotgun on my rocking chair and say "get off my lawn", and well, the lawn? that's mine too.

But I do understand the difference between the terminology "home" and "house". But I think there's a big difference between owning a house and "owning" a co-op or condo.

if you own a fully detached house, can you take it and plonk it somewhere else? what?

not saying that i'm buying into JR's theory completely here, but this is perfectly possible, albeit crazy expensive. my parents' friends who are now neighbors did just exactly this, literally moved their house about 30 feet back from the road, relocated/built new foundation and all.

169K GBP is $253,626.85 USD - that can buy you a roughly 3500/4000 square foot house where I live.

London prices mate. you can get the same sort of flat in Nottingham (for example) for £89,000.

Yeah, it is pricey to live there - what's the tax for just entering the city by vehicle up to now?

Shitting Christ... but then again, parking in most major US cities is about that much per day, so I guess it evens out.
