drukqs is great, those beats are wild, it's a crazy time

but you skip tracks on that shit, no doubt at all. i never listen through that album. i couldn't remember the melodies on those piano pieces very well if i had to.

"ultravisitor" is as good as any track on drukqs. i might even say ultravisitor is a better track than anything on drukqs. but that's the only track on that album that is at that height.

and go plastic is nearly equal in quality to drukqs, and I would more likely listen through go plastic. what a fucking album that is.

feed me weird things and hard normal daddy both have moments of greatness. "tundra," "beep street." not comparable to Aphex's first albums, which stand untouched.

i read the rules, i came and i saw, i made this thread, and stuff. alright guys - updates to follow. now stuff my brothers hard and strong.

Agreed.

I think that Tom is, without a doubt, one of the landmark musicians of the last decade and a half. Brilliantly unique.

It seems as if he is totally uncompromising and dedicated to his art. His compositional innovations that have grown out of this style are, brilliant - to say the least. Also, I admire an artist who is responsible for every aspect of their work. Although he has his weaknesses (like anyone else) he is responsible for the composition, performance, recording, mixing, mastering (unfortunately), video, and artwork. A few of which are masterfully done. I like that he takes chances, but that they are always in directions that are uniquely his own.

I think saying 'artist a is equal to artist b' is silly - Tom and Rich both have made groundbreaking music, and have approached music making in similar and vastly different ways. Considering Tom's recent output seems to be leaning more to the bass guitar-driven tracks with live drums, I think he might be moving away (a bit) from the electronic side of things and more towards more 'traditional' music, whereas Richard seems to be (again, based on his most recent output) returning to basics by using vintage analogue synths and a more 'warm' sound, similar to his early works.

also, just felt like pointing out that just cos the title track ultavisitor is the most electronic thing on the album, it's still something totally different to drukqs. the bass synth or something, sure it's similar. but the nature/feel of ultravisitor(track/album/everything) is just completely different to anything aphex has doen. like others have said, it's kidna silly compairing such different artists.

but what you're saying is pretty much a compliment to squarepusher so it's all good :)

I like both artists, if squarepusher had pushed his awesome programming style music abit more rather going back to his instrumental roots then i might like them equally. aphex is at the top for me, but if squarepusher was to release something really immense then it could change.

I think that if you think Ultravisitor is the only good track on Ultravisitor, then you haven't gotten into the right Squarepusher headspace and shouldn't be making claims like that.

ultravisitor is pretty different then drukqs... but equally as good basically, I really dig ultravisitors incoherent structure, it makes each listen as mysterious as the last.

Pound for pound, I do think SP has the musical ability that AFX does, they just express it differently. SP could make an album that's better than some Aphex records, and he has. Now in terms of overall quality over the years and enjoyability, I would give the trophy to Richard. Tom's latest stuff does not appeal to me as much as Analord or Tuss does.

Aphex - 1992-1999 and (possibly) 2005-present
