Merge all music boards into 1 single subforum = WIN :cisfor::music::wang::cat::orly:

This would work if we could get people to reliably 'tag' posts (using the post icons nobody hardly ever uses, if they were changed to tags) - that way someone could quickly visually see if a topic was of interest to them.

I'm still on the lookout for an addon that will allow this, but it's a pretty big technical hurdle to overcome.

Also, I want to know which of the featured artists is the WANG computer :emotawesomepm9:

this wouldn't be HORRIBLE, but then we have the BOC only crew mingling with the rest of us. IMO, leave Plaid, give us Ed DMX.

Why merge them anyways? I dont see the problem with having a bunch of subforums. It lets the small subgroups of fans on here to collectively chat about whatever, and so what if the plaid forum dies down for example, while they are working on their new album. If we merge them I don't think it would make a difference for bandwidth.

except u didn't say "But we DOOOO, need a DMX Krew Subforum".

Hey man I voted for without any bias but I'm not going to ralley for it until I get a chance to check his music out.

I'm at work and there is no chance of me being able to hear them while I'm here. (callcenter you see)

d/l my DMX krew megamix.

We should have a music forum, like general banter, but with artist subforums in it.

We would have a general music discussion area and aphex, autechre, boc, and luke vibert specific discussions going on in the music subforums

This!

I said pretty much the exact same thing earlier.

It would allow people to have ultra specific discussions about artists who don't have subforums like they would in the subforums without crowding general banter.

No he most certain wasn't, now he doesn't sing and his sound is miles more refined.

Joyrex was supposed to add that general music forum a while back. As for EDMX he got better in later years.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try a general music forum, but my concern is it drawing away from the artist subforums (and thus reverting back to the days when it was just General Banter and legitimate artist threads getting lost amongst the chaff), and dividing the community - people will be torn whether to post in General Banter, or General Music Discussion, and it will mean more work for me and the Mods moving threads from GB to GMD since people will think it's still OK to post music discussion in GB, etc. - it gets too messy.

The best way to do this is to have one forum, and filters to filter content by one or more criteria - that way, everyone can get the forum experience they're looking for, and as much or as little information about what is relevant to them as they want. Unfortunately, the way the forum's database is structured, there is no such way to do this without really hacking up the board.

Also, this thread has turned more to discussions about subforums themselves, and really not about if Ed DMX is "deserving" of a subforum to discuss his music, so that tells me right there that like the Cylob subforum, it might not be worth having a subforum for Ed DMX after all...

well we already have a new music forum but that kinda restricts our convo .. you can always try it and then ditch it if you feel that it sucks .. such is evolution .. let the branches die ..

I would like to think most of us are smart enough to post in the correct forum. If its too much work for the mods, you could just make a few more mods. As for dividing the community, I don't think thats how it would play out. If our forum had an enourmous number of different boards, then yeah but there would only be two main ones: General Banter and General Music Discussion.

General Banter would be the same old busy free-for-all it always has been, but there would just be that extra option of the GMD which would give us more to post about I think.

Obviously you have the final call but I think it would be a good idea to try it out because I can't see it doing anything but improving the general flow of discussion.

For example we have the EKT forum, and it doesnt steal anyone away from General Banter, it just gives us a place to discuss music synth. I think GMD would be like this.
