From what I remember, it was a collection of old tracks they had made, but I never heard anything about it being released beyond their will. I mean... didn't they get signed with warp on Incunabula? Why would they sign onto a label and then immediately give them access/control over their tracks so they can drop an album right away? Doesn't make much sense to me although I could be wrong.

true, they even stated in an interview that warp left out all the aggressive tracks.

i like the idea of corresponding music to seasons, and sometimes weather. i'm too heavily affected by it, i sometimes can't listen to music if it's sunny. it just doesn't sound right. grey overcast makes it better for some reason, idk

glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Ae takes up a lot of my listening time between Autumn and Winter

Just started up the Basscad EP, loving the Bcdtmx more than Basscadet itself I think, so much more rhythm and swing added to it. Tons more of their hiphop influence.

As for Incunabula, I love Lowride and Bike but those drag on just a biiiiit too long for me, w/o any changes or anything. My favorites would have to be Maetl, Autriche, and Bronchus 2, lollol

EDIT: Also, does anyone think Bcdtmx is very Aphex-sounding? Could just be biased, though.

THATS HOW U NO U GOD WHEN YOU GOTA MODEL AND SHE THROW UP ON YO DICK BECAUSE ITS SO BIG AND YOUR IN A LIMO GOING TO A LIL B CONCERT - Lil B

on the topic of seasons, we picked an interesting time for this experiment as autechres music tends to get colder as they evolve through their discography. Next week is amber, and its just beginning to be fall right now, trees are turning orange and stuff which makes for an appropriate time for the Amber album. I imagine once we get to Confield or Untilted there will be snow on the ground in my area.

I don't have Basscad EP, for those of you who are listening heavily: worth getting? Is it just remixes or some good standalone stuff?

It's really cheap and got good reviews, so I assume so.

I, personally, haven't gotten it yet.

yes. There are at least two tracks that absolutely sell it and the rest are fairly decent as well. No miss here IMO

Just finished listening to Basscad and Anti. Did you ever wonder why the original Basscadet made it onto Incunabula when the Bcdtmx basically pisses all over it? Man, there's a lot of movement going on here, and some totally epic rhythm! Also, I've been wondering what you guys think of the Seefeelmx. Personally, I think it drags a but too much, but the main theme of the track is pretty badass, it would make some excellent background music to some WWIII nukes and red skies. As for the Tazmx, it is one of Autechre's many underappreciated yet totally awesome tracks. It may feel a bit out of place alongside the actual Basscadet remixes, but it delivers a lot of new themes and emotions which I find quite pleasing.

Since all I have is the CD version, I have yet to hear Basscadoublemx and 12/4cadetmx, could anyone give me a hand? I'd sure like this summary to be complete...

i'm listening to incunabula, and i'm actually liking it more. i feel it better. the whole winter thing got me thinking differently, and it sounds "right". shit, now i'm so used to classic AE i won't be able to get used to their later stuff like draft. i'm gonna have to listen to the discography in order....

anti ep is excellent! i even gained a new appreciation for flutter, after not listening to it for a while because it was too monotonous (despite the obvious gimmick of the track).

and yes, tazmx is awesome.

Oh Doctrine, first AE track I heard back when I had to find files one at a time on limewire because they didn't have anything at the record store. The whiplash percussion at 0:58 made me realize I'd probably end up following their whole discography.

Edit: for something that was apparently cobbled together at the last minute the sequencing on Incunabula is really great.

aw man this album has such a cheesy-futuristic vibe to it! reminds me of racing through some of the darker, gloomier tracks in Wipeout for ps1. i love bike, one of my all time favorites, along with eggshell, 444 and autichre. autichre has such a surreal vibe to it. i love those ghost-like voices in the background. never really liked lowride or basscadet. theyre both pretty cheesy. but i must say, they have their moments. unfortunatley i dont have basscad,ep or anti any more. ill have to change that...

i've had bike as my ringtone for almost 2 years now. can anyone think of a worthy replacement from this week's selection?

I have a great pleasure doing this experiment, I mostly listen to the tunes with my headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 990) instead of my shitty earphones (15$ Sennheiser) and I discover things I've never heard before.

Also, begining of Bike give me a weird feeling. years ago when everynoe were using Kazaa, I had this tune in my folders don't know how don't know why, and at the time I dind't knew Ae existed. And it wasn't labelled Autechre. Years later, I've discovered and bough Tri Repetae and such and then, Incunabula.

Yeah you could use doctrine, or the "ba-ba" sound of Autriche.

I agree, it's got a real retro charm about it

I have really restricted my listening time to just this album all week so far, and I have to honestly say that when you do something like this (especially with Ae's music as you are always finding new sounds which were unrecognizable before), my appreciation for Incunabula has increased higher than before so needless to say I will carry on with these organized reviews every week. It's perfect for the lead up to Winter.

Flutter is excellent by the way. I love how they sort of turn the melody on itself near the end, as it slowly fades away. It's quite a basic track in it's design (besides the beat programming), however it's simplicity is what makes it satisfying for me. I wouldn't want it to be turned into anything else.

The Basscad Remixes are growing on me ever so slightly. When I first got the tracks, I didn't pay too much attention to them.. I will give them all another try before the end of this week. So far though, I do prefer the original Basscadet version on Incunabula, but I might change my mind before we move onto Amber. Autechre are unpredictable for me as far as judgments are concerned.
