i was just listening to a Jean Michel Jarre record (En Concert / Houston - Lyon) and there's the sample of "i don't have any idea about what's going on" inbetween Magnetic Fields 1 and Souvenir of China.

i just jumped out of my chair

that is heresy. completely different. nothing can compare to the breakdown in 444. yes i am biased. no i don't give a fuck.

Yes ok. But your brain is capable of hearing the extreme and obvious similarity? Or are you biased to the point where you can realter what your brain hears?

i cannot hear it. the similarity

Anyone else think Flutter might have been a transitive track for the lads considering it was their first time experimenting with thoroughly nonrepetetive beats?

Incunabula remains my least favourite Autechre record. Some context - Autechre are my favourite electronic group, and I listened to their later stuff first (started with Draft 7:30).

I admire Incunabula as it's a clear indication of some vector of originality. And has a few tracks that still stand up for me in the context of their later stuff. But it's just the start of that path, so it's unsurprising that the rest of it doesn't excite me as much. I'm increasingly excited by what they developed as they continued.

If you make a generalisation as bad as all generalisations are, there are people who thought there was some kind of apparent idea that peaked at Tri Repetae, and didn't like much of what came after, and there are people who think Autechre got way more exciting from that point on. And I'm easily in the latter camp.
