Draft 7.30 / Gantz Graf EP

Recommended Posts

Well here we are, and I'm fucking tickled pink today because Draft 7.30 (AKA Autechre on laxatives) is most certainly my all time fav Ae LP, and Gantz Graf is fucking awesome as well. I did something special for all of you Watmmers today because I have the CD on hard copy and I took some nice high-res photos of the album insert cards because the ones on discogs are really tiny and low-res.

edit: You'll probably have to save them and open them with something other than the imbedded photo viewer because you can't see the whole thing at once.

So suck on that, taste it with your eyeballs. Afterwards, its time for everyone to start listening and posting your thoughts. Straight off the bat I have to say Surripere is probably my #1 track of all time, and even though I change around sometimes, Surripere is my #1 most of the time so thats what I'd have to say. This album kind of sounds like autechre had indigestion all over the place. Listen.

fuck yeah i've been craving some draft - bought it on vinyl last weekend. hopefully there will be a sunny day ahead on one of my days off this week so i can either play it at home on my turntable and sit outside with beers or go for a walk in the nearby park with it in headphones.

also one of the printers i use at work (xerox nuvera) has a mousepad that looks disturbingly like the draft 7.30/gantz graf artwork:

Can't wait, last week was the first time I listened to Confield (hadn't really heard anything past Chiastic) and I loved it. Here's hoping it's the same with Draft.

It's actually taking me longer to get into this album than it took for me to love Confield. It's very different. Regardless considering it's my birthday soon I got my parents to order Draft 7.30 and Untilted (finding Ae in Australia is well... I could spend a topic complaining about it but I'm not going to). I've heard more of Untilted actually because I orignally skipped straight past Draft due to how... 'difficult' it is... Everytime I try to sit through it I reach Surripere and forget how the first four songs went.

All I can say is that Surripere fucking owns, I know that much so far.

EDIT: Gantz Graf EP. My first post-Chiastic listen. Awesome video, awesome song. Dial and Cap.IV are embarassing.

I find this hard to believe.

Gantz Graf with video is absolutely orgasmic.

I walked into JB one day and sitting there was half of Autechre's album discography and a few EPs. Needless to say I was thrilled, but I've never seen them have anything more than Untilted, Confield or Quaristice since.

where in australia are you? funnily enough, i always found music stores in perth had more autechre than anywhere else that i've been. sydney was ok, and in melbourne i can hardly find any - except for the occasional quaristice in jb hifi or as i mentioned above, draft 7.30 vinyl in greville records :music:

though i might just be looking in the wrong places, hehe. i know the fuck out of obscure record stores in perth.

it's a shame sound&fury in darlinghurst isn't around anymore, they had tons of ae stuff. and i always used to see a lot of their stuff in red eye records too, though that might have changed.

*with great shame* South Australia. I got JB HI-FI to search for the word 'Autechre' (I spelt it for them) and it wielded no results, whatsoever. I would have presumed that it was Australia-wide, they did say it was...

One of my friends found an Autechre album in Western Australia - Quaristice.

At the moment I'm using Spun to get Autechre, but Amazon may be a better bet for albums Spun refuse to get in - like Tri Repetae and LP5. Owning EPs Envane and Cichlisuite would be pretty killer too.

yeah i heard about that store (from you I think). seemed like I would have liked it a lot

red eye is my favourite here though, they've got a really good jazz, avant garde and ambient selection. it's a short walk from my school too, I usually go buy something after school every week.

some kind person has a habit of trading in all of their Autechre and Clark cds at Rockinghorse Records in Brisbane. Every second week I seem to score something or other. Draft 7.30 was my latest find, haven't been in for about a month though. Otherwise, the only Autechre cds I've seen in stores are Incunabula (pounced on that), Quaristice and Confield. When I was in Canada Sonic Boom had a shitload of ae stuff, should've cleaned that place out.

The one on Adelaide St, in the city. ;)

In the one trip I managed to pick up Confield, Untilted, Draft 7.30, Tri Repetae and Incunabula... along with Gantz Graf and both Peel Sessions.

I just got extremely lucky. Even I was surprised that they had all that there. I remember I was going in there to pick up something I really wanted (Air's Moon Safari DVD, I think it was) and I just happen to be near where they stored their Autechre stock. Blew all the money I had on the CDs and got the DVD the following week. :P

Sonic Boom Toronto!?

I was there in July this year! They had a huge stock of Autechre when I went there.

I found Draft the hardest one to get in to, even more than Confield.

I like it now but I really have to be in the mood to listen to it, whereas I can listen to their other stuff all the time.

Surripere is fantastic as I'm sure most people would agree, the first few listens I didn't get why they "ruined" it when it changes but now I can't wait for it :)

Gantz Graf is great , a bit much the first couiple of listens but then awesome, the other two tracks are boring IMO.

No way man I've been hardcore about this Autechre listening thing and ONLY listened to the ambums for the current weeks, so yeah it actually has been 7 weeks since I've heard anything from draft.

..Similar thoughts which I have about this record. I don't think I have given it as much time or attention compared to other ae albums.. This week I will give it a fair few listens before I post in this thread.

Why's that?

I don't mind having it on in the background, I think it's a mistake to treat music as as some kind of exam or something.

seems more like a delicacy than something you can snack on.
