Draft 7.30 / Gantz Graf EP

Recommended Posts

yeah, nice review hauntingsoul,

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

- lost cloud

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

-organized confused project

Draft has taken a while for me to get the hang of. Some tracks immediately jumped out at me such as 61e.CR and V-Proc -- the rest I have to admit are still taking their time to grow on me. I fully appreciate this album though as a body of mechanical work. Melodies are few and far between but that doesn't matter to me anyway. It's a completely different direction to Confield - they left the paranoia in their last record behind and headed toward a more clean and clinical, almost a "hectic", metallic sounding record. Some of the sounds on Draft are truly profound, I wonder how and what they used for some of those melodic undertones, e.g the breakdown in 61e.CR where the melodic undercurrent creeps in. I love that sound.. ae are very subtle in their ways, you really need to take a lot of time and patience to enjoy this album. Though it's quite far from being my favourite, I rate it as their toughest and strongest record in terms of the percussion it delivers in almost all the tracks.

Most would probably agree that Surripere always delivers - definitely my most enjoyed track from Draft.

I think ae could have easily added some great ambient tracks on this record by recycling the subtle melodic sounds from tracks like 61e.CR and Surripere.

Stand out tracks: 61e.CR, Surripere and V-Proc.

Just thought I would get my Gantz Graf review in here before this thread dies.

Gantz Graf is a pretty epic track and the vid that goes along with it is largely regarded as the most accurate visual representation of Ae music ever created. The actual track is a great mix of glitch and intricate grinding beats with harsh melodies creeping through from time to time. I really overkilled this track for myself though and I find it hard to seriously dig it until the last minute when the track begins to wind down and end, which is really a fucking amazing little chunk of music. Should be longer though, 4 minutes is not enough.

Dial. has a really awesome beat. If you don't like it, you really need to hear it on a bassy sound system because on shitty speakers or ipod headphones the track sounds all high and and clicky, which it is but the track is not the same if you don't have the really deep heavy pops to go along with it. This track sounds like the mental state of a manic serial killer. Almost like some insane clown-killer who is stabbing a girl to death and smiling happily like a pig in shit. The woman scream sample is really skin-crawling, and the melody is so insane, this really is the auditory equivalent of homicide. Easily the most disturbing Ae track I've heard.

Cap IV is probably really underrated. The first few seconds are really annoying which used to lead me to just skip the track completely, but this one has alot beneath the surface. The melodies and chords present here stylistically date back to the tri repetae period, but the beats are the most highly progressive on the album. This is your semi-typical Ae track with blended crazy percussion and subtle, soothing melodies. Think Pen Expers, 61E.cR, Cichli, that sort of thing.

All in all, this album is pretty sick and I sort of wished they had thrown in an ambient track and a few more tracks on top to make it a full length ep instead of just a 3 tracker but maybe short and sweet really is the name of the game here

Haha, minor aside but I used to live with Joey, the sick and dying kid from that movie. He was also the son on Frasier. He is all grown up now and still a very funny guy.

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of their tracks with voice samples are usually people saying "Autechre."

This is true of Dial and Cap IV.

I still CANNOT get into the Gantz Graf lp. Cap IV i can get into on occasion. But fuck it's all so noisy and chaotic, too much for a white man as my uncle would undoubtfully say.

It's the only Ae that I truly haven't "gotten" yet...

Draft on the other hand is a beaut

Does anyone else think that "Dial" is almost kinda like their take on the Robert Hood style of minimal techno?

Struck me when listening to this track last week>
