The Jimi Hendrix re-releases from 1993 had awesome liner notes and sheets of stamps in them, which I still have.

Negativland always puts interesting stuff in their CDs

Aileron by Rotor+ is really cool, like a hard cover booklet... can't find a big enough picture sorry...

I love the artwork in Future Sound of London releases. I don't actually have this one but it's one of my favourite album covers:

And I really like OOIOO's Feather Float although I doubt many people would agree... it's really awesome inside too:

Cradle Of Filth - Nymphetamine (bonus disc version)

NILE albums ....I love a lot of metal albums at all.

..and as well, I can enjoy every LP version of a good record.

thanks! speaking of which, i still have a few copies of 'lets take this dinosaur' left, if anyone's interested:

http://forum.watmm.com/topic/39165-rooftop-access-lets-take-this-dinosaur

plus my new album reals and dreamity is available in hardcopy format:

other than that, some of my favourite cd covers are handmade indie releases. i love when effort is put into packaging. especially these days with mp3 downloads becoming more convenient than buying a cd and ripping it.

my favourite commercial album packaging/artwork (some has been mentioned before in this thread):

animal collective - merriweather post pavilion (great art and packaging)

tool - 10,000 days, lateralus

nine inch nails - the fragile, the downward spiral (lush!)

any hafler trio release, particularly the ae+h3o stuff

all of talk talk's albums have absolutely beautiful artwork, and i love how the reissues of the first four albums have letters on the spine that spell out TALK TALK when lined up on the shelf.

although I dig what FSOL were doing with their art in context, by today's standards I feel as if they are rather dated works. the music holds up over time though.

Agreed! Very dated. Kind of in the same category as like fractals and all that computer generated 3D stuff that was so cutting edge back then! They made it look as organic as can be though for when it came out.

ALSO - happy to see other Negativland and OOIOO fans!

'dinosaur' is three ambient guitar tracks, and reals and dreamity, well you can listen for yourself at the link in my sig.

I like the sleeve that comes with Surfing on Sine Waves. It nice and simplistic without being shitty.

Yeah actually you're absolutely right. But a certain kind of nostalgia makes it hard for me to look at that artwork in a negative light.

Definitely these, and Vol 1 & 2. The CD cover and inner art for the Vol 5/6 CD is excellent too.

'1000 Hurts' by Shellac CD comes in a snazzy mock tape box, I really want the vinyl version as well.

All of Quinoline Yellow's releases

I have the Amnesiac book cover, it's pretty nice but scratches the CD to fuck.

Original 'Low-life' vinyl by New Order with the tracing paper cover, Return of The Durutti Column sandpaper cover, plus pretty much anything on Factory up until Happy Mondays took over.

'Atom Heart Mother'

The Black Album by Prince

All of the Cocteau Twins releases on 4AD

I love any album covers without text.

Bibio / The Apple & The Tooth 12" - GOLD!

Pivot / O Soundtrack My Heart 12" - nice artwork by the guy who did Jean Michel Jarre stuff

Warp10 12" releases - just classic tDR stuff

Boards of Canada / Geogaddi 12" - for the artwork, and the etched side F

Joy Division / Unknown Pleasures 12" - do i really have to explain this one?
