Boards of Canada / Geogaddi 12" - for the artwork, and the etched side F

I'm a little ashamed that I didn't know about this. HUGE fan of Geogaddi but never looked into the Vinyl for whatever reason. Do they still sell the etched side F version?

nope you can't buy it direct from Warp anymore, you might be able to find one on eBay (i've noticed quite a few popping up on there recently), and Discogs of course. I got mine through Discogs, and I'm quite pleased that it is absolutely MINT :)

On a side note, if you get the limited edition CD of Geogaddi the same picture etched onto side F of the vinyl is printed on the inside of the CD sleeve. This is a bit easier to get hold of than the record.

EDIT: don't get sucked into the cult :) i'm on the fine line between being a BoC cult member, and just being a geek. luckily i'm more on the geek side.

Thank you for the helpful info, oscillik. Can't say I'm anywhere near being cult-worthy (obviously, if I didn't know about the special LP) -- all I know is that I reeeeeally love their music. I haven't yet tried to find meaning in track runtimes or play things at different speeds, though I may try that last one if I can find the vinyl ha ha.

Geogaddi is one of the few albums in my entire library that I can come back to at any time and still feel as smitten with it as I did when I first heard it. The whole album just feels like my childhood. It's so organic, frozen in time, and emotionally perfect. I've tried to describe it to people who aren't familiar with BoC or this genre and no one I know "gets it". That's why I love this forum -- everyone here understands!!! And gets equally excited about it!

Going back to the topic of the OP, all I have is the Japanese 24 track CD release. But the idea of a nuclear family etched onto side F of the vinyl... it's a dream come true! Gotta' get it somehow!

yeah, those people that take the whole "hidden meanings" thing with BoC have kinda lost it a bit, in my opinion. listening to tracks at different pitches is cool, and can reward you with a different listening experience but i really don't subscribe to some of the nutball theories that have been bandied around with regard to BoC. there was never any "mystery" BoC conspiracies before Geogaddi, and there haven't been any since then.

the etching is pretty cool :) i'm always really careful with trying not to get fingerprints on mine though. and it's not a really lightly done etching either, it's pretty deep. kind of akin to a wood carving effect. i paid £60 for mine, and consider that a bargain because of the condition it is in (literally mint condition). good luck with getting hold of one :)

I didn't bother reading the whole thread yet, so this may have already come up but:

Brownout by Phoenecia. Fantastic album, and it's a digipack so coupled with this artwork it makes quite an aesthetically pleasing possession.

12 tracks, 12 blister-pack 3" cds (hmmm, 14 in that, must be the rerelease). pure overkill and utterly beautiful, taking the 'medicine' concept of the packaging to its logical conclusion.

spiritualized always do good packaging -

that object kinda looks like a short mcdonalds box with the face inlaid, so as you rotate the case, the faces gaze follows you in a trompe l'oeil.

Not IDM but the Ditty Bops put out a pretty amazing pop-up album art pkg with their release "Summer Rains". All produced with recycled paper and printed with soy-based inks so as to be friendly to the environments. It was even nominated for a Grammy but Metallica's coffin vag looking thing won.

I also picked up this Swayzak release many years ago due to the album cover and having no prior knowledge of the artist. Was disappointed with the music but I still like the cover.

I used to go to Amoeba and buy things based solely on the cover. It was expensive and only had about a 15% success rate but I couldn't help myself.
