seriously i can't imagine what you would use the ipad for.. what the fuck.. it's a useless piece of shit. how can anyone think any differently? what the fuck in your life could you need that thing for? it's a useless thing that costs a lot of money. and it does really nothing. your life won't change if you buy it, in fact nothing will be different, because the thing is a useless piece of shit.

as i said before, albeit approximately 90% in jest, touchscreen "pads" will be useful for police and the kind of people who need laptop-type internet/network functionality but not a whole proper laptop. i figure that apple is sandbagging on the features now for the inevitable upgrade (see iphone 3g to the original iphone)

i predicted in the future that dummy terminals will rise again and we'll eventually have some sort of universal standard personal flashdrives, whether or not they're going to be tied in with the inevitable microchipping remains to be seen. i mean, the airport security industry spent billions setting up these full body scanners and only needed an excuse to get them fully unleashed (underwear bomber), some jails already have them. i bet they'll have mobile units for sporting events and maybe even deployable ones for festivals/newyears/checkpoints. the next step after full-body-scans/digital imaging will be the "security bracelets" that have mini-flashdrives on them and built in stunner capabilities, which is probably one of the last steps before outright microchipping. when they tie in monetary systems to unilateral flashdrives and microchipped IDing, these type of super-PDA touchscreens will be the key to dealing with people. i think it's fair to say that the standard of laptops in police cars will eventually be replaced by something akin to the ipad being on each individual officer, barring some sort of bottleneck on the input (i.e. if the digital keyboard is too slow)

either way, i think the ipad represents a type of technology that will be ubiquitous in the future, it's just not going to be this actual generation of ipad.

Look most people walk to where their computers are and use them and leave. Is that inconvenience really worth $500+? Not to mention the growing trend of internet capable phones. If I need to check something about something while I am away from my computer, I can... it fits right inside my pocket. Isn't that great! And if I want to watch a movie... well I don't do that on my phone, but if I am in my house and wanted to watch movie, why wouldn't I watch it on my TV (assuming I have a nice one cause I can afford a fucking iPad)? Why watch film's on a device that isn't even true HD or widescreen? I don't even know how comfortable it will be to watch something lying down on something like an iPad... you either have to hold it so its always sitting up, or rest it on something. Idk I was excited about the prospect of Apple shooting us into future computing possibilities by making a truly capable tablet PC but what they have here is simply a large PSP or, as stated a billion times, iPhone. And if it can only do what my phone can do, does the extra screen space really apply that much added worth? For me, I would rather have something I don't need to put in a bag or worry about transporting. I can see the next iteration being much better, but as of now... I'd rather stick with the devices I have, cause I am really not looking for much more. I got a laptop to watch movies, surf the web, write (on a keyboard), and perform other applications (mixing, gaming, photo editing) and I got an iPhone for mobile internet, music, etc.

 

I see the beauty and appeal of the iPad, and how it feels very much like a future computing device. But it just lacks in substance to the point that I am waiting for later iterations or someone else (Microsoft's seem pretty cool).

im not defending the pad, im just saying i think the sizes are fine. for something that is meant to dock every day or now and then. you dont need to carry around 45000 songs in wav format plus 25 hd movies. if you are going on a trip, you throw on a few movies and a bunch of albums. maybe 16gb is too small for you but 64 gb certainly can not be too small. for the eryday oe, i think the sizes are adequate.

The ipad is the resurgence of the old world device meant just for media consumption and not actual new world computing.

 

lol yes that's what so many people do with their computers now. They sit around programming them to do something new. That explains the smashing success of the CLI.

 

I'm not here to defend the iPad, but I think I'll wait until I've actually seen and tried one out before ripping it a new asshole.

 

As far as storage goes, cloud services. Plus if the new iPhone OS doesn't have multi-tasking, I will eat 3 pieces of toast with peanut butter on webcam.

 

Open interfaces may not serve the best interest of the common person, but that doesn't mean the feature is not important.

The only reason I think they are sided with in arguments is they put the ball in your court more for customizing and they are more egalitarian as the intro price is cheaper and lets face it computer enthusiast love to customize and be the master of their domain as much as auto enthusiasts, but anyway, what was I saying? or read the book 'the Pirates of Silicon Valley' . both dudes stole heavily off of other silicon valley programmers. All of apple's claimed 'inventions' of the GUI the mouse, etc were blatantly stolen from Xerox. Microsoft didn't even make Dos, bill gates bought it for like $100 off his old college roommate and resold it to IBM for millions.

Ok, Yes, Jobs did borrow ideas from xerox, but i think there is more to it. otherwise we'd all be using xerox machines besides making copies. He took a good idea and brought it to the mainstream. Refined it. Appealed to the creative market and kept their attention for a while. He decided to focus on sleek, minimal design to reach a broader audience. Ives might have helped with this aesthetic, but its still Jobs decision to say yes to something. So even if it was someone elses idea, final say is the last link in the chain. Knowing when you see something good. I personally think they do make a better product. New macs are down to a matter of taste and if you are doing graphic design they are easier to use (still).
