yep, true.

Via Richard Devine's facebook post: "RT @N0N_3NT1TY: @_capac Yeah, I got the new Autechre LP too, Treale is such a good track. They remind me of @richarddevine in places. :)"

It's definitely out there...

Just reading a lot of oversteps tweets http://twitter.com/#search?q=Oversteps ... so sad, lots of links to various blogs hosting the fake leak and so much people thinking they're listening to the proper album... also people being in love with the new album etc.

zomg :D

This is pretty funny, I remember the quarisitce " treasure hunt" we had 2 years ago here, I really loved it and it ended up showing itself on bleep.

This time is the same kind of tresure hunt, but this time, our pal Twitter is here to help.

I wonder how big Twitter's part is gonna be in this search for oversteps.

twitter doesn't seem like it's going to help as far as i can tell because its just slower paced version of a msg board and takes longer for a gullible twitterer to get called out for downloading a fake and thinking its the real thing.

why do bands still announce albums months before they come out anymore? they should have just announced that oversteps is now available on bleep and physical products ship in march.

edit: a twitterer should just be called a twit

it's just an antiquated system that will eventually stop being used. Rephlex knows whats up and i really admire them for having for instant download over 4 releases before they were even announced.

The thing is that the people having a proper promo copy are gonna be easier to annoy... And they'll be really annoyed, and won't leak it

yea, thats how all releases should be. that would eliminate a lot of pirating no? so many times when i get an early leak, im sick of it by the time it comes out

also, if all these people have promos, wheres all the promo for it?

Edited by jules

i think human ego and pride will not be able to stop a promo from leaking, someone is bound to want to impress one of their friends by showing them a rip of the promo and thats how it starts.

i mean just look at all these people writing 'pre-reviews' you can tell they are experiencing pleasure similar to those ones who post the first comment on an article and say 'FIRST!!!!'

well isn't it rather obvious why they do that? it's to get the album hyped up to the max so more people will eventually buy it

they are afraid to leak it, if they get found out by WARP, WARP may take them off the promo list.

it's similar to why reporters didn't speak that badly about George W Bush for such a long time, they didnt want to loose exclusive access to interviews with his staff, etc

yes but does this still work? cd sales have been declining everywhere without exception, genre is irrelevant.

To me something like Avatar-day, the 16 minute free 3d preview for a select group of people months in advance to the release was a very smart marketing ploy to get word of mouth buzz going.

If you show absolutely nothing for the product you are hyping 2 months off, the word of mouth buzz can't possibly become more than 'im really excited to hear this'

it's antiquated as fuck to only give an early copy to a reviewer and not a fan imo, at least warp should make a youtube sampler like they did for Hudson Mohawke and Clark
