yes, someone should work on a 10 mins version

done and done

I give you

Perlence Subrange 6-6.773768897608

I actually like that, did you just sped it up?

I tried speeding it up 400% and I got a 12 minute file which sounded pretty cool. So then I sped it up another 400% to get something 2:20 in length. The whole process took for-fucking-ever. The 2:20 file is uploaded here: http://forum.watmm.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=17055

I might upload the 11:43 version to Megaupload or something, maybe later.

There have been similar tracks before, like The Place Where The Black Stars Hang, by Lustmord. It's a 75 minute dark ambient track, but it definitely has more variation than Perlence Subrange 6-36. I think.

yes far more, this is why everytime a n00bish AE fan raves about this track i revert back to my elitist old man experimental music lecturer self and say 'go check out some other droney ambient you might like it'

wait.. wouldn't that make it longer?

hmm..

I should say I slowed down a section of it and repeated it

my original idea was to take the first 11 seconds and stretch it to 10 min

but that sounded like one long woooooon

Maybe they left the recorder on by mistake after jammin out Perlence subrange 3 and ate their fish n chips with brown sauce and had a beer. And then they are all like - look we have 29mins 18 seconds of not much happening. I know lets slow it down 50% for a laugh and put it on quadrange 4. Wait it still sounds ok, push up the gain on the pre amp, ah thats better a bit of clippin, pass the tomato sauce mate.

if oversteps was this cut into bits I would not be too impressed.

OTOH if an album was made of 14 1hr ambient pieces I would be pretty fuckin stoked. Cos even if 7 of em sounded like this, that would leave 7 more that would likely be super sweet. And that would be 7 hours of sweet sweet sounds. Oh man a 14hr remix EP that would kill.

edit: I don't think that Perlence subrange 6-36 is completely crap, infact in the Perlence-suite context it is kind of interesting I suppose. A good way to slide out of the Perlence zone. A satisfying experiment for the Perlence People.

could you render your idea to 320kbps?

even though simmm and a couple more tracks are missing, quadrange, without 6-36 and 9013-2, is much better than quaristice

as i discovered today, this track was made for long walks through the blowing snow with noise reduction headphones..

it's quite nice, reminds me of some of the FAX label ambient releases..

This is why the vinyl versions are so much fun as well.. playing tracks at the 'wrong' speed makes for hours of family fun.

I find this is an EXCELLENT track to do homework or assigned readings to. It serves to calm your mind and settle you into a single wavelength. Helps tremendously for focusing because the track is so incredibly long that time doesn't occur to you as often and I tend to feel less rushed as a result.

And it just puts me in the perfect mindset to take information in.

for the record subrange 6-36 is a brilliant piece but it is also one of the most difficult Ae works apparently. I grew to like it after a few listens but it serves better to listen to while falling asleep or doing homework or something. Brilliant track, all the haters are just blind.

@ Kiya: Yeah it was only released as a digital download, on Bleep and I'm pretty sure iTunes as well.

I don't get the hate for subrange 6-36 at all. I think it is a phenomenal track. At first I was disappointed because I was expecting an hour long snare onslaught but I don't know what the hell I was thinking.... Only ambient tracks can really last an hour without getting boring.

Again I really like that track, it almost seems to me to be symbolic of infinity. Almost like that is what you experience after you die. The day after it was released I took a bunch of mushrooms with a buddy and we listened to it in its entirety. It was a thorough mind-fuck and really allowed me to grasp the concept of the track. Listen to it when you're doing homework or something, it can be tedious to pay serious attention to it the entire time but because the changes are so subtle you probably won't miss anything if you aren't 100% focused the whole time.

Anyone hating on Perlence Subrange 6-36 (or any of quadrange for that matter) is just entirely missing the point, absolutely no exceptions.

1. or you're blind for not seeing THEIR reasoning for disinterest. don't bash ignorance with ignorance

2. it's an hour long ambient track. makes sense to me why it's hated, even though i find it quite pleasant

3. that, or they just don't like it. what's with people expecting points? like, all the time? that's like taking Rob Zombie lyrics seriously.

no offence man, but wow. lighten up

What I find amusing is that somebody actually spent the time going through like a year's worth of posts to pull those out. Pretty hardcore
