Redruth
BLADERUNNER is one of the most influential films in my life. It has set inner themes and sparked inspiration that makes up a significant portion of who i am today. I am interested to learn how this film has effected others here at watmm? Please share your relationship and it's evolution in regards to Blade Runner, or anything that Blade Runner inspires you to bring forth in words, pictures or sound. kcinsu
Blade Runner is so engrained in watmm, making a thread about it almost seems redundant. We all love it, and the soundtrack. And yes, I am officially speaking for every single person here. Guest Enter a new display name
I saw Blade Runner for the first time one month ago. It changed my life already, and I could say without a doubt this quickly became one of my favorite movies. Everything about Blade Runner is so metaphorical, dreamy and atmospheric, that I totally forget the violent parts. This scene always fascinated me, never a murder could be presented so beautifully. Guest Coalbucket PI
I dont like it that much, its got lots of cool aspects and ideas but I find it a little bit of a drag to actually watch after the first time. It just seems too slow. The 'attack ships of the shoulder of orion' part is just so absolutely perfect that it's worth watching the whole film for. pcock
i didnt like it very much, i can see why people would think it was a great film, but the first 2 times i tried to watch it i actually turned it off before the end because i just couldnt be arsed. when i finally watched all of it i was underwhelmed aswell. different strokes for different folks and all. khov
must be one of my favorite movies too. the soundtrack is great & a fascinating story too (check wiki & the bootlegs). that said, i'm not sure of the point about it now (i mean the thread here). saying how great is blade runner in 2010 is like saying that Tchekhov & Maupassant are great writers : nothing new under the sun. but we could gon on forever about that fascinating story, screenplay, ambience, atmosphere, soundtrack, cast. even the dialogues are well written. from start to finish, this movie might be perfect. Redruth
this movie is perfect. for me it is quintessential. the mood is melancholy throughout, it is quite an emotional film. when i experience this film it is mostly for the details and the time in between dialog ..the small sounds, the rain, the clicking and beeping of machinery ect ect. this movie is all about the details. the light, the sound design, the foley, the set design, the costume design. this movie is a dream inside of a dream that leaks out into reality. all the aspects of this film are so directly in line as a vision that it has lived at the top of it's genera since the day it was released, it has become a guiding light in so many peoples lives. then comes the dialog and the meaning behind the film. the searching for replicants. i feel we are all surrounded by this every day. we first must recognize those around us who are more mechanized to one degree or another, including ourselves. then we must choose whether we will just destroy ourselves or others we find or whether we will show compassion, humility and make sacrifices to heal and help what is defective. some are so sick with their program that they lash out and will kill us and may be immovable in there design. some we fall in love with and can complicate our lives to no end. some however may change and break out of the program that was written into their fleshiness. we all have the capability of doing this, but it is just a question of how much we want to pursue it before our time is up and how much we are ably to get a glimpse of the truth, our true nature, and be motivated to break free of that which we were built to think we should be. then there is Deckard, he in a way represents the motivation to awaken, the stimulator, the one that gets in the replicants face and makes it introspect about what it truly is. many of them are already doing this on their own, but he brings an extra element, an extra perspective into their lives. what a fantastic character Deckard is, a very satisfying hero in all respects. The angst and emotion in this film is wonderful. we love the replicants and we hate them at the same time. we see their flaws, but the compassion in us is fighting for them to change and to be given more time in their short lives to do it... but it is beyond our control and in the end that has to be come to terms with. it is very hard for me to put into words all the different ways this film is relevant to the past, present and future. i could write pages about this film and could watch it an infinite amount of times. i think it is very important at any time as a discussion piece and because it has never been given a dedicated thread here at watmm, i thought it was high time that such a standard medium in our collective conciseness be brought back to the forefront. this film is always relevant and will always be relevant, there will always be new things to learn from it, new ways to understand it and new thing that we can create and understand through our inspiration. Well, the Blu-Ray version has been digitally cleaned up and the film restored to it's original pristine beauty (one of the things I hated about the DVD transfer - it was so poor), but to say the cameras were crappy back then is simply not true - the resolution of film is still way higher than 1080P, and if done right, film-to-digital transfers can bring out more from analogue film than say film-to-videotape ever did.
