Watching it on Blu-Ray is fucking amazing. And I saw it in theatres in 1982 during it's theatrical run.

What's it like watching blu-rays of old '80s movies? You know, cuz their cameras and crap were all old and stuffs.

Well, the Blu-Ray version has been digitally cleaned up and the film restored to it's original pristine beauty (one of the things I hated about the DVD transfer - it was so poor), but to say the cameras were crappy back then is simply not true - the resolution of film is still way higher than 1080P, and if done right, film-to-digital transfers can bring out more from analogue film than say film-to-videotape ever did.

I was gay enough to purchase the Director's Cut on DVD for a few dollars on eBay a few weeks ago. I was not aware of the version differences until recently. I originally saw the Final Cut on TV twice, then I finally played by DVD yesterday night. You are right about the poor transfer, all I see is dirt on the film and the main menu is primitive as fuck. As of the cut itself, I was a bit bothered by some bonus scenes present in the Director's Cut, like the police station and the marketplace. Those parts kinda ruined the mysterious environment of Blade Runner, imo.

I pray they don't dare do a 'reimagining' of this movie or a 'reboot' or 'sequel'. It's truly one of the few movies that is fine as it is and doesn't need anything more.

stay away from the straight-to-video 'sequels' then

i thought the late 90s point-and-click adventure game captured the atmosphere pretty well. it also came on like 2351 CDs

Duncan Jones, the guy who directed Moon, has said here that he's working on a Blade Runner -esque film.

Considering the fact that Moon takes inspiration from quite a few iconic films without soullessly ripping them to pieces, i think Duncan Jones shows some promise.

I also felt Moon was heavily inspired by Primer, even down to the musical score. has Duncan Jones talked about how primer was a big influence on him or does he keep this quiet?

i didn't think there was much similarity, and i don't remember the score being that prominent. either i have really bad memory (since i only watched Primer about a week ago) or we differ on point of view. either way, i'm quite looking forward to what Duncan Jones comes up with next

So what's the general consensus on WATMM - with or without the Harrison Ford voiceover?

I also saw BR when it first ran in theaters, with the voiceover - and I guess since that was my first impression it is the way I prefer it.

definitely without, and i am vehemently against the voiceover. so much so that after Guilermo Del Toro admitted that he prefers the theatrical cut, i have vowed never to watch any of his films. yes, i am a prick

yes absolutely, i just hope he doesn't take the obvious aspects of Bladerunner ie: a noirish detective tale in the future as his main inspiration.

yes! It was quite good. Though like any adventure game, it had its share of "roll your mouse all over the screen until it highlights the tiny object you didn't even know you were looking for" syndrome

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

Without.

The voiceover kind of ruins the mysterious quality that's built up when it explains every detail. I like having to figure out what's happening.

Blade Runner should be locked with a legal safeguard. i think anyone who is responsible for tainting Blade Runner with any money making schemes should be tarred and feathered.

If anyone is involved with future projects based on Blade Runner it should be Ridley Scott , Hampton Fancher, David Webb Peoples+Vangelis ect ect. If even the slightest compromise was made

on matching the originals aesthetic in production then it would be questionable if it would work at all (i really doubt it would be possible to hold up to the original). i pray they don't

touch this film! ive always thought it was smart that they had not, i always thought there must be an understanding shared among all involved about the sacred nature of this

film. i would think anyone would be scared to attempt such a feet for fear of ruining their career (including Ridley Scott).

fucking this film up would make masses of people very very angry.

I thought Moon was good, it was a bit hard to follow at points and the ending left much to be desired, but overall i was entertained and i always seem to enjoy Sam Rockwell. i could see Duncan Jones

learning from his (small) mistakes on Moon and doing a fine Blade Runner inspired film...but like you say as long as he comes up with enough original ideas of his own.

The cameras were not crap, it was shot on 35mm film-grade stock. What do you think, they shot everything on video in the 80s or something? Any movie that was shot on film, and had even a 1/4 decent cinematographer, is going to look awesome in HD. The DP on Blade Runner was Jordan Cronenweth, who was one of the best. Good HD transfers are done in 4k -- film grain is thought to be around 4k. DVDs are NTSC or PAL, so there's a lot of resolution lost, not to mention the effects of interlacing. There are actually a lot of 16mm films that would benefit greatly from a proper hd transfer too.

That said, the difference in this transfer, even if you just get it on DVD, is very apparent. The did a full restoration, not just a new transfer.

who has this '25th Anniversary Edition' Blade Runner OST?

what is it like?

brtril_b.jpg

Is the 'Esper Edition' the best Blade Runner OST?

(i like it the most of what i have found)

Is there really a 'Deckard Edition' and if so, is it better then Esper?

Anyone a fan of Mike Ladd's "Welcome To The Afterfuture"?

love the Balderunner references.

Are there more references then just in the 'Bladerunners' track?

I rather like 'Airwave Hysteria'.

I enjoy Mike Ladd most of the time.
