Ilanders

Would agree it's probably the best track on the album. Almost like crossing Clipper with Vletrmx21 and throwing some of parhelic triangle in as percussion. Mega thumbs up to AE on that track.

honestly this track doesn't hold my attention much past 30 seconds in. i think its too long

i have to agree with this. it's not bad but if you've heard 30 seconds of this track you've heard the whole thing. it doesn't develop much in it's 5 minutes.

stereo imaging? this whole track sounds muffled to me. i'm always turning it up when it comes on but it still just doesn't have enough punch or impact.

i bet you're not listening to the 24 bit WAVs :nelson:

best job ae ever done was hiding so many goods behind the muffules in y7 and ilanders.

once you get past it, the muffles evaporate

brilliant imho

never had a track take quite so many listens and so many minutes before all the muddiness just cleared away and the track just stood out.

it was all a distorted mess on the first 2e^11 listens, but then the clouds just broke away and opened up

Guest Sprigg

At first, this was one of my favourites on Oversteps, but after repeated listens, Ilanders has become the one track that I consistently skip.

i guess you must have defective ears.

maybe you're only hearing 23-bits

you're missing out on a world of difference, seriously.

i must have defective ears, too. i've also got the 24 bit wavs.

and let's be honest here: there is not some huge earth-shattering difference between the 24 bit wavs and the other formats available. it's nice to have that extra bit of fidelity but it's not like you put those waves on "OMG ITZ A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ALBUM!!!"

anyway, just my opinion - ilanders is muffled and repetitive. i don't skip the track (yet) but i'm always dissapointed when it comes on, thinking 'i wish this had some more layers of percussion', or 'i wish this had more melodic development' or 'i wish this took some more twists and turns and surprised me a bit instead of just repeating the same melodic motif over and over'. it's got the makings of a great track but just didn't get developed enough.

i would suggest taking the 24-bit WAVs and then recording them to cassette tape, via the line-out from your computer into the line-in on your cassette deck/stereo. once you've recorded the 24-bit WAVs to tape, you should then let the tape sit in the sun for a couple of hours to burn-in (i believe this is a technique called "bake the tape"). once you have baked the tape, then play your cassette tape from the deck but make sure to pass the signal through a tube amplifier, and record the tape output as 96KHz 32-bit float files to your computer. now you should be able to get all the richness that was originally apparent in the 24-bit WAVs, that you can't hear due to your glue-ears.

one other tip - when playing back the recording, make sure you get hold of some Yamaha NS-10s and make sure that you're using CAT-5 cable for speaker cable. it really does make all the difference.

it's not repeating over and over; there's subtle differences all throughout and it's quite continuous.

took me ages for the muffled/distortion to open up...now it doesn't even vaguely resemble distortion. it's all quite clear
