Deftones - Diamond Eyes

Kind of funny to hear people complain about aggressive/angry lyrics from an older musician...when usually you hear people complain that an older musician's music is no longer as good as it used to be because they mellowed out/quit taking drugs/got happy/etc.

I've been on both sides of the coin...really just depends how the music turns out. If it's crap and lame, I complain that they should get back on drugs/get angry, if it's quality I'm happy that they've matured because who wants to hear more of the same? In this case it sounds (based on what you guys are saying) that it's quality yet still more of the same, but that's ok because it's quality. And that sounds fine to me.

yeh I completely agree with what sidewinder said as well, your age shouldn't put a restriction on your music. The main requirement for music is its quality not the tools, persons, region of the universe that made it. I was purty facepalmed about the guns razors knives things but yeah its not supposed to be hella serious obviously.

the diamond eyes video was slightly better than it looked from the sneak peak, this album is nothing to be upset and heart broken with but yeah my excitement is very minimal

I'm digging the owl in the Diamond Eyes video. There is something about THAT owl, in particular.

Got this last weekend, 4th listen now. I'm enjoying it, definitely better than Saturday Night Wrist. 'CMND/CTRL' is pretty awesome. I was put off a little bit by the softness of 'Sextape' but I guess it's grown on me. Never disliked it, just felt different. I think that kind of applies to several songs though. But it's solid, regardless.

I really need to give this album another shot or two. barely gave it a full listen, it really is weird to think how much I progressively loved Adrenaline/ATF/TWP Deftones, they were bigger than the beatles to me mayne.. now listening to there new albums feels a bit like sleeping in your dead grandma's bed or something

Whoah, just got round to having a listen to this album and was totaly suprised at how good it is (on first listen)!

Always liked the Deftones but TBH since the single Minerva I haven't givin them much of my time. I play White Pony a lot but not much of their otherstuff so my word is not the law on The 'tones. But this album is really good, wether its just down to not expecting much I don't know. Either way its put a spring in my step today. Happy days!

I think Deftones has always been good about being consistent and not alienating their fans. Not many bands can pull that off. Sure, there's a few weak tracks here than there but for the most part their overall sound has been the same.

there is no mic on switch on sm58s or most popular over 20 dollar microphone's so it was the sound guys fault that her mic wasn't audible for the first minute or two. After that she did an alright job, I think did it cause they thought it was a fun idea and probably at least half the band wants to fuck her.

Just in case you didn't know Deftones to a lot of goofy shit/half serious/adventurous stuff live. They aren't always uber serious and usually try to do different stuff to keep shit fresh and fun.

seen em 4 times but only 2 of them were extremely memorable (I was pretty inebriated at those other shows in their defense)

about a month after ATF came out in a super small club (they played almost 2 hours and went ape shit)((they seriously played nearly every song released at the time even played teething from the crow soundtrack))(((most people didn't know them that well there I felt like the only deftones fan witnessing them in their prime killing it so hardcore for so long to a crowd that was clueless))(((easily in the top 5 greatest shows ive ever seen)))

seen em headline a festival in las vegas where they played well into the night (someone screamed passenger towards the end of the set, it was a real party atmosphere, steph probably smoked like 10 joints on stage, anyway chino goes where the fuck is maynard and runs backstage, he comes back and freaks out like why the fuck didn't maynard show up? he throws down the mic and it sounds like the sm58s diaphragm blows up and seriously comes to close to almost destroying what must have been at least a hundred grand in PA speakers)

most people thought they were being serious, people expect them to take themselves a lot more serious than they do even knowing how they talk etc. when they joke around on stage Ive rarely seen much of the crowd understand that they are clowning around

I went to see them after SNW with my little sister who's become a fan half thanks to my constant playing when I was younger. It was the first Rock/Metal show I'd been to in years and I told her that the moshing and pushing in the front just annoyed me these days and I'd just stand at the back and enjoy it there. They ended up going into a speech about ATF and played the first 5 tracks from the album in a row. I fucking lost it and ran topless into the pit about 5 seconds into My Own Summer. Been amazing all 5 times I've seen them but that 20 minutes was just untouchable.
