Oversteps - Initial Reactions (for real this time)

Recommended Posts

treale has the draft b-boy thing going on for sure, but as I think someone else said feels kind of like a quaristice-lp5-amber fusion to me. Though it can't be reduced to that; it feels pretty fresh to me.

edit: at about 2:45 O=0 sounds pretty damn chiastic slide

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

LOL. There have been varied comparisons to many previous albums now...

It sounds like Tri Rep. Like Draft7.30. Like Amber. Like LP5. Like Incunabula. And funnily enough, those albums all sound quite different really. EDIT: Just saw other posts. Like Chiastic Slide. Like Quaristice.

I have an unhealthy obsession with known(1)...

I bet we're going to get loads of reviews that bemoan the last few years of Autechre's music, saying it's all been self-indulgent and hard to listen to and that the new one is a return to form, a return to what all proper music 'ought' to have: melodies, their best since Tri Repetae.

At least they liked it, I guess.

Just listened once through

overall I do not like it

the first half of the album is just dull to me, nothing stands out as interesting or unique

See on See is good, as soon as I heard it I thought "now this is nice"

Treale is also pretty good, then my interest starts to wane again untill D Sho Qub, good song

and the rest is decent but nothing fantastic like Tri Repetae

Most people had the same reaction as you. Just give a few spins and youll like it more and more.

Its one of the biggest "grower" albums for me. At first it just seems kinda bland, but after a while the structure of the melodies and the subtle variations start to sink in. :emotawesomepm9:

if you're not on a quadrophonic set up you might be missing stuff

Even though it's a stereo recording yeah ? :whistling:

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Is the snare in the same time In treale the whole way through or does it get a tad faster towards the end? Or do I just get really excited towards the end... I can't tell

perhaps in an effect from my sound card?

I haven't listened to it any other way yet

it sounds like a highly distorted, buzzy, tinny synth with very short notes and starts at the beginning of the song

I'm on my 7th or 8th listen through. It's bloody awesome.

First listen I didn't like it at all but as with most Autechre it's grown on me.

Beautiful is an adjective I've not been able to use to describe their work since Amber, but Oversteps is just that IMO (bar known(1) which is destroyed by the horrible noisy thing the comes in after about a minute or so)

Genius - can't wait to see them live in Brum :-)

They've finally followed a path I heard implied in their music, but had yet to be fully explored.

They've finally embraced it, and the result is fantastic.

Love this album already!

My initial reaction:

Why is every singly track 4 minutes? This is really just a long song any ways... Believe or not but it sounds formulaic to me. Over all I did not overly enjoy my first listen, plan to give it more in depth listens but it seems a bit weak so far.

r ess, ilanders, os veix3, O=0 and d-sho qub are good tracks. the other tracks seem kinda weak. i think its because i like more traditional stuff.

actually, st epreo is really good as well

an EP with ilanders, qplay, Treale, os veix3, d-sho qub and st epreo would have been a stronger release... forget the lighter counterpoint interludes.

and not that i don't appreciate the 'wind chime' noodlings.

I'm just the opposite, tracks like see on see and pt2ph8 are my favorites

for awhile, krYlon was kinda the odd song out for me... just seemed a bit messy with no real direction, but it struck me a few listens ago as a truly beautiful song! I think others on here felt the same way, so just give it some more listens and maybe it'll come around for you too.

Loving see on see, Treale, os veix3 and known(1) at the moment, those are the highlights for me. I still haven't qite figured out krYlon, but I'll give it a few more listens, hopefully it'll hit me like most here

THATS HOW U NO U GOD WHEN YOU GOTA MODEL AND SHE THROW UP ON YO DICK BECAUSE ITS SO BIG AND YOUR IN A LIMO GOING TO A LIL B CONCERT - Lil B
