i wondered that too, didn't they sell flacs at some point though? maybe it's because apple are still behind the times and won't support flacs because they won't make any money off it, or something.

FLACs bought through bleep didn't have any metadata or artwork anyway, at least not the ones i bought.

yep they definitely did used to sell FLACs, i would assume your assumption is correct. some people hear the acronym FLAC and cower.

There's nothing wrong with ALAC, so it's not like apple are actually behind the times. Conversion from FLAC to ALAC or vice versa is really too quick and simple to complain about, and they're both DRM free, etc.

It could just be the cowering thing: .wav is perceived as more standardized and recognizable to lossless n00bs. I know a ton of people, windows users and apple users alike, who think FLAC is some inferior file format. Look at some comments on torrent sites: "WTF is this FLAC shit I want at least 192kbsomg." But a lot of people seem to recognize .wav from dicking around in windows.

i think it's mainly because FLACs cannot be played in iTunes without some kind of modification to iTunes. regardless of how easy it is to convert a FLAC to a WAV or ALAC, like you say - there are still those who are clueless about the format.
