I like some dubstep, the albums I've enjoyed to most are by Vex'd, Boxcutter and Burial but I guess they're not straight up dubstep producers. The ravey shit with wobble bass and movie samples gets a bit tiresome in the long run.

I have two friends who make dubstep and are constantly trying to convince me to both like dubstep and make it.

To me when I hear it in clubs etc it sounds like a group of 14 year olds on fl studio who finally found the LFO section of their synths.

the speed of dubstep doesnt resonate with me, i dont like to dance to it.

i like listening to wAgAwAgAs albums at home, nice bass manipulation.

The answer is no. Like someone mentioned earlier 90%... no wait, I'd go as far as to say 95% of the dubstep you can buy on Beatport, Boomkat, Juno etc. is absolutely horrible I would never throw money away on it. But every now and then you'll find gems lying around and sometimes you'll find artists who completely change the aspects of dubstep - such as Nabo:

His stuff is brilliant.

Daedelus did a pretty vicious dubstep set last night ( goosebumps were in full effect ) And no , I don't hate dubstep.

For the moment , a nice a mount of dubstep sounds the same . The genre is pretty new, so I guess it hasn't really flushed itself out yet ( kind of like when D&B first hit the scene ) A nice amount of it sounded the same , but now...it's pretty diverse .

Give it time...I guess .

I just remembered that I really like Broken note. Dark and dirty filth noise. Check em out. Their DJ set in the overkill tent last year at glade was proper.

If you have a few minutes spare watch this video on a big screen... :emotawesomepm9:

Loops Haunt seems too talented and what he does to keep making dubstep. listen to the DSP fuckery in his other tracks, beats most 3rd tiered idmers by a long shot

Good, as I'm not that into dubstep save for the occasional track or album. As others have said, much of it is too samey, you feel overwhelmed with the same-ness before you even dive in.

He's getting quite a lot of attention lately from the IDM creme-de-la-creme labels. If he were to sign with any of those i think he'd settle into a much more experimental mindset.

Or maybe he just likes the club environment and will keep to this oblique approach to club music.

maybe he likes making music people actually like to dance to.

To me Loops Haunt has just been a one trick pony with Haurache... I'd love to be proven wrong on that though.

In terms of Dubstep... I enjoy Vex'd a fair bit, some Milanese, a bit of Broken Note here and there. Its not really the kind of music you listen to with depth, it is however the kind of music you'd slap on in a club to get people dancing.

Is dubstep a dying genre? no I don't think so but I do think its highly overrated...

Again like other people have said... there are some shit dubstep artists, and some good ones.

End thread/ :P

i used to always play my jungle records at half speed, wanting them to sound good.

they rarely did, but i would continue to try because i wanted that sluggish deep

sound ..where hip-hop, dub and jungle all come together. finally i found Scorn

and fell in love and Funckarma and Funkstörung become known to me as well.

then along came dubstep. i would agree that there are only a certain percentage of good

artists working in the genera, maybe 25% in all honesty are producing works that

really get my head nodding.

i think dubstep is here to stay and there will be alot of amazing new innovations in the sound (and unfortunately alot more crap as well),

but if you know where to steer then all's clear. I'm really looking forward to Scorns new album, Burials

new album and the possibility of a new full length be Mount Kimbie this year.

I'm honestly relishing in this divisive property of dubstep. If it gets IDM fops to stop holding hands on account of how one likes Burial and one likes Borgore it's all good. Dubstep is good outing material for snobs.

p.s. troon, please, PLEASE stop saying "genera".
