New autechre is more like BoC

Recommended Posts

In some tracks I had the same boc feeling/vibe. Also a less overdriven Clark vibe is to be found in some of the tracks. My girlfriend thinks the same about both similarities.

I'm pretty sure that both Ae and BoC do, in fact, exist.

No, but struggling to find comparisons to AE's latest output to BoC's musical styles is an exercise in futility - why can't people just enjoy the new AE for what it is - new AE!

Next, everyone will say how similar the new BoC material is like VSnares or some madness of that ilk.

Depends on your definition of struggling. The first time I heard Oversteps I had some brief moments where I thought: "hey, this sounds a little bit boccy". Then a couple of days later in the car when I played Oversteps to my girlfriend, she had the very same thing during some tracks. This has got nothing to do with being able to enjoy the album for what it is. Just an observation. I also hear definite Clark influences here and there; even more so than the BoC vibe.

yeah I hear that too

I like the parts they share very much so this is really great

its still different from other artists just trying to imitate

they are still totally aware what they are doing while most other artists just trying to upgrade their music with a pile of warp magic without really understanding how the magic really works

If you feel compelled to compare the sound of Oversteps to another artist, I would like to submit Astrobotnia for your consideration. Of course, it's Autechre that influenced Astrobotnia rather than the other way around, but if someone had shown me snippets of Oversteps and told me it was Astrobotnia I would not have batted an eye.

Guest Joebot Kill

upon initial listen, there were parts on oversteps that reminded me a bit of plaid. known(1) reminded me of the stuff they had done for heaven's door. and there was a synth line in qplay that sort of reminded me of BoC. but still, now that i've actually listened to the album multiple times, it's still firmly autechre. thats what i love about it.

but speaking of autechre and BoC, who else was hoping we'd hear an unheard BoC tune on the broadcast? I wasn't holding my breath or anything, and with good reason. but that definitely would have been cool.

I agree with the comparison of less overdriven Clark more, but it is definitely a new direction they find themselves in on this one.

Maybe Oversteps was secretly made by Boards of Canada, and the new Boards of Canada LP will be secretly the new Autechre record.

The secret behind Hoodie's post is that she hasn't read the rules.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

Well as much as i love both... i really don't hear anything remotely BoC on Oversteps. i think it's just BoC fanboys clutching at straws

no seriously, my first impression was just classic AE. Someone already mentioned that BoC would go for something a lot more atmospheric, and i agree. everything BoC does has an organic feel to it, AE is synthetic blissss
