I have to assume that your point is that Japan has a low homicide rate because of lack of handguns. So, you are stating that "Countries with stricter gun control have less homicides", right?

Bogus.

Take Jamaica as a counter example. Jamaica's murder rate by density is a magnitude worse than that of the states (49 per 100k as opposed to 5.4 per 100k in 2009 if you believe wikipedia), yet Jamaica has extremely strict gun laws. They were essentially banned in 1974.

thread needs less Boxing Day and more guns! I'm in the market for a double barreled shotgun right now. Any ideas?

unknown, i mainly want it for self defense and i hope i never have to shoot it. i just imagine a double barrel looks scarier than other types of shotgun

Double barrel gives you (obviously) only two shots. A pump action will typically give you about seven.

Anecdotally, the sound of a pump action shotgun chambering its first round is extremely intimidating. You wouldn't get that with a double barrel.

If there were not any guns today, there would be no wars, for everyone is far too lazy to start oil wars if they have to leave their control gun panel in basra zone 11, take their knife and look into the eyes of a land defender as his last breath hurts your cheek he whispres "my children"

fuck guns, i get guilty enough shooting a virtual gun

Lumpen-

That's not cool, man. I'd like to think I'd only kill people that have it coming to them.

yeah sure they've got the laws, but they aren't enforced at all. the Jamaican government can't handle the gang violence going on in there. according to this the police killed 277 people in 2006! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/sep/02/theobserver.worldnews

good point, and with a pump action you could have like a bird shot as the first round so if you DO end up shooting somebody you probably wouldn't kill them, more like a very painful warning shot?

Not character making in any way, two guns are just part of the problem, its the whole notion of owning a fire arm, the same model, the same manufacturer as a gun that kills people for no reason

take your small penis thread and shoot it to pieces with a grenade launcher

i only came here to see who the small weiner crew were

Anyway-

Back to my original query: I know SOME of you must have experience with firearms, wondering what you think of the brands/models I've chosen.

once you've shot a few trees down with an assault rifle like a PTR-91 or something you'll understand the thrill of it.

hahah thread winner. just make sure they're open-range trees, not ones penned up in a hunting reserve. it's no fun if they've got nowhere tor un.

a handgun ban in one city won't do shit and hasn't done shit. a handgun ban in an entire country would. Also, did you see the information i posted on japan the other day?

while i pretty much support banning all guns, this is a pretty bad argument. the us is so much larger than japan (and has so many different demographics of people in it). just doesn't correlate well. still, without guns in our country their use would go down a whole lot. it's impossible to deny that. sure people would sneak them in (hahahahha imagining a canadian gun smuggling ring), but it would chop the volume down a lot.

while i believe gun restrictions definitely lower murder rates, im also curious to see how many other violent crimes exist within those societies. those statistics are often left out.

plus you also have to take into account the populations of the respective countries. The US has at least 4x the populous of Britain.

also keep in mind that the US was constructed based off of the second amendment, im not defending it persay, but keep it mind the ideology behind owning a gun in the US, and how incredibly difficult it would be to confiscate these guns if such a law was passed.
