It's funny cus I was actually in England during BLOC but I didn't have the money to get the tickets in time and even if they hadn't sold out I still wouldn't have been able to afford it. I wasn't even going to come to England but then they announced a show in Brighton.

I wish

You Utter, Utter GAY!

try and get soundboard of this show. there is strength in numbers. if they have someone guarding the soundboard all of you guys together should be able to take him out. :shuriken:

we still have yet to get a decent quality recording of this tour. be prepared for all the bass.

Good luck with the recording guys, the bouncer at the door of the glasgow gig was asking people if they brought any recording equipment or photographic gear with them. (there was big notices on the door saying so)

Hope its a better venue as well.

Brighton Pavilion is a tiny venue I believe? Think I went there once. If they use the same speaker setup as the previous gigs, take yer plugs :wtf:

I won't be bringing my camera for fear of breaking it. I'll bring my phone in to take some pics but yeah, I don't want to ruin the experience for myself by trying to maintain a decent recording the entire night, only to have my camera run out of batteries halfway through or some shit. I'll ask about the soundboard thing if I see an opportunity, although I'm not that assertive and I doubt I'd want to ask the sound guy for fear of being angrily declined.

That was fucking surreal, seen AE twice before but not like that. Veering very much into untitled territory..

Rob Hall was brilliant techno while Russell Hawswell was wank arts council berlin noise. I hope everyone had a good time as I did, the sound was echoing around Pavilion Gardens.....

I think people are being a bit hard on old Russell Haswell

it's just a bit of whacky fun rather than chin scratching arty farty noisecore even if both have similar results

anyhooz, any recordings folks?????

There is a time and a place for noise.. straight after or before Autechre doing their headline live thing isn't it. I suppose the whole point is to un-ease the majority of the crowd and make Ae sound even more dancable than they are. Only a few people "get" noise, even at an Autechre gig.

If there has to be a noise set, then perhaps first off or last thing (if they want to clear the place...), but I personally would prefer a stomping Rob Hall set right before (and after) Autechre...

The venue itself was great - you had plenty of space around you, the toilets were literally a few paces away, the bar was also a few yards away, and people had plenty of room to move around each other. The sound system was excellent as well. It was perfect for an ae live set.

Didjit was first to play - he seemed to take up longer than he was meant to actually play.. some of his stuff was good (as in there were good moments in his live set) but the majority of his set did not particularly excite me

Russell Haswell was extremely disappointing - I don't find any fascination with noise. I wasn't expecting to hear what he did as ignorantly knew nothing about him before going but I could tell that all he had was some kind of hardware device that he just seemed to be randomly tweaking to create varying sounds of noise. However quite a few people enjoyed it, which I found difficult to understand?

Then Rob Hall played a dj set. It was a mixture of some old hip hop tracks (some Public Enemy alongside some basic drum patterns) and a particular melody (not sure what track it was from) which kept coming in and out of his set which was enjoyable. I'm not a big fan of hip hop so although I could appreciate the mix he was playing, I couldn't really get into it.

Then ae came on. This was the first time I've seen them live and overall I think it was a decent set. Although expectations are kind of irrelevant to anything now, I was really hoping to hear some melodic patterns within the set (much like the middle-to-end section of the Quarastice live set). I did not count one continuous melody at all - there were many subtle patterns going on underneath the beats but you couldn't really make them out into structured melodies like the ones found on Oversteps. So this live set that they are playing at the moment is very beat-driven, so don't expect any catchy melodic stuff to occur :wtf:

My brother failed miserably to try and get a recording of the set on his i-phone, the results were pretty pathetic. I was about 1 metre away from the soundboard guy. He looked very grumpy so I did not bother talking to him lol and it looked like he didn't know what he was doing with the music programs he was attempting to use on his laptop as he kept on going to and from the help topics on audacity and some other music-monitoring program that he was utilising. I could tell that when ae came on, he simply opened up audacity and recorded the whole ae live set with it.

I agree with what someone said (that the beats on this set are very reminiscent of the Untilted tour) and there were some excellent moments in the set. Transitions were great. Just to reiterate, if you are seeing them, don't expect any melodies..

ABSOLUTELY BLINDING. They are SERIOUSLY back on form.

in all seriousness, have you heard the Quarastice set? There's much more variation in the Untilted/Quarastice live sets than this one they are touring with. It was good, but I don't think it was better than the two previous sets from these two eras.

Yeah, I was at London shows for both those tours. After the Untilted show (which I loved), I found the Quaristice set a little too similar and not as interesting as a result. It wasn't as "worked" somehow.

I preferred this new set to even the Untilted era - I found it more creative and diverse. It's less "user-friendly" as many of the rhythms are at least partially algorhythmic and not obviously "step" based... so you can't really dance. And they are shoving the tracks together a bit, cos they can't be beat-matched. But it's far more interesting. There's an aggression in the ideas, as well as the rhythms - they are pushing you to try harder to think.

(I also like the shift away from emphasis on the Electron gear.)

Although I still haven't heard Oversteps yet (no internet at home right now..) so I don't know how the set compares/relates to the album.

I thought this show was fucking incredible. Me and Ella were totally front center, literally about 4 feet away from B&B, which was totally fucking unbelievable and surreal for me. I was beyond drunk by the time they came on and I was dancing like a maniac. My neck hurts like a cunt today from all the head banging I did. I would say in terms of the set quality, it was a tad repetitive but I love their beats so god damn much!!!! They just KNOW how to make THE BEAT that I need. I need their beats. I need them I need them I need them. Also I gots myself an Oversteps shirt which is totally incredible. At the end of the set I screamed "SEAN BOOTH!!!!" at Rob because I was drunk and made a slip up. I realized instantly that I had made a mistake but he didn't even look up so it doesn't really matter. Still, being less than 5 feet from my two fucking idols for their entire set was totally invigorating. I was so supercharged with energy that on the walk back to Ella's house I screamed "OVERSTEPS!!!!!" at the top of my lungs probably about 15 times or so throughout the course of the walk. I also tried to give her a piggy-back but dropped her on the ground and now she has a bruise. Also I dropped her oversteps shirt on the ground too and she just finished washing it, but we were worried that it would be stained for good.

Anyways, brilliant set, if anyone on here is trying to decide whether or not to see them, fuckin SEE THEM! :emotawesomepm9: :emotawesomepm9: :emotawesomepm9::cisfor:

To be fair... You were going to like the set even if it was terrible.

To be fair... Nothing Autechre could ever make could be terrible.

When waiting at the doors I recall Rob Brown walking off the high street in Brighton and he came straight past me, making his way through the entrance. I didn't say a word but I can't imagine how hauntingsoul would have acted
