i think it was a combination of a lot of things, at the same time i made the rap album i was bringing up some controversial topics on the Coil mailing list, such as why Musick to play in the dark took almost 7 months to be sent to fans after all the preorder money was taken or why the original Astral Disaster vinyl was supposedly a limited edition of 100 copies, and they had a surrogate (friend) start doing private auctions of 'remaining stock' of Astral Disaster for upwards of $100 a piece on the Coil Mailing list and i called the operation out as kind of an unethical business practice. Subsequently i had my (at the time static) IP address blocked from visiting brain-washed as well as world serpent records and the treshold house/coil website. Someone in Coil was very pissed off at me, i'm just not sure who it was.

Interesting considering Sleazy still works with him to this day. And it's not like Sleaz would need help nowadays, especially seeing as he doesn't really even need an engineer (he doesn't record anything in a typical sense, it's all pretty much generated by his machines)

In saying this, I just heard the latest solo track by Sleaz - only the second song he's ever issued under the name Peter Christopherson - and it has FUCKING AWFUL engineering, straight out amateur. So maybe he still uses Danny for THBC etc so he can actually have clean, clear and professional sound!

The track I'm referring to is 'All Possible Numbers' from the 2009 compilation Autumn Blood (Reconstructions). You can find it here along with about a million other really interesting records.

ok found it. not the best thing ive heard by him but not awful either.. reminds me of the early versions of some of the tracks on 'form grows rampant'.. seems like an unfinished idea

also ive been listening to 'a nature of nonsense' and i still dont think its bad.

Hi was pointed to this thread via a friend

awepittance

appreciate your points but have a few of my own

1. metaphysical I do indeed have, but as far as I know I haven't used any of the samples to write a song

please tell me examples of the use on NON I'll have a look and respond ( please give song name and time of incident)

if i have used a sample I would tend to use it rather as a cook would use basil I.e it is good so why mess with it, but I would never write a tune based on it

2.The artwork is indeed poor, but at the time the album was finished, my website/artwork person had a breakdown ( un related I'll add), and so I had two choices, delay release or just get on with it, I guess you can see which road I took

3. Drum loop in protection, well geff wanted to mimic a style so I dipped into a vinyl breakbeat album, and used one, oblivious to the fact that NWA had the same album.

remember that in the early 90's we all had a basic stock of breakbeat albums, how could we know if somebody else had used said album.

Do not forget a person had to sample from vinyl and then mess around getting it to loop nothing like how easy it is now.

Also that ep was made on a small desk at pete and geffs house , so forget the stock bt and appreciate what was written on top of it.

I mean I was in a studio when massive attack made their first album and believe me most sounds on there were just lifted off these stock albums

that is the way that style was created so obvious that geff wanted to mimic the same.

If we had twisted like we did 90% of things we would have ventured into a different style.

to everybody who appreciates NON thanks

Dan

hi danny, thanks for stopping by. If you want me to i can find the actual track names and name of metaphysical functions patch. I'll have to dig out the aural rage cd from my disorganized music collection. I really don't want to rip apart your music, obviously i think you are an extremely talented producer, and my disappointment with the Aural rage release stemmed from how high my expectations were at the time.

I'm sure you are capable of extremely amazing music on your own, so i can accept that Aural Rage was most likely a misfire.

the protection reasoning still doesnt really clear up things for me. Why even if Danny got it from a 'sample record' as he claims was the loop unedited/unpitched/unchanged. He just says above that he uses a sample like a cook uses basil but that we would 'never write a tune based on it' , the Protection single seems to run counter to this statement.

He's also implying that NWA merely sampled the same drum loop that he sampled. I beg to differ, it is a sample taken from the NWA song (maybe it was subsequently bootlegged onto a sampling record that danny used) that i suspect was put together by the producer of the song Express Yourself.

Hey Danny, if you're still reading, keep up the good work, I actually think the album is deadly. If you're in touch with Stephen Thrower tell him that's a smashing book on Fulci, Had a nice chat with Alan Jones about that recently.

Well, this thread makes for an interesting read :)

Did anyone catch that unreleased version of FJ Nettlefold a month ago (I completely forgot to post it on watmm at the time)? Way more aggro vocals by John, better than on the album (I discovered that album through this track though, so I'm biased). The album is quite good as well, a nice suprise to find after almost 10 years.
